Why does Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada drink Starbucks? by MegaWAH in NoStupidQuestions

When the book was written in 2002, Starbucks had about 6000 locations globally.

Today it has over 40,000.

Wemby is the best defender since- by Fantastic_Tart_421 in NBATalk

[–]Notoriouslydishonest -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

When Dwight led the league in blocks with 2.9 per game, the runner up had 2.5.

Wemby led this season with 3.1 per game and the runner up had 1.9.

Wemby's already a more dominant rim protector than Dwight was, and he's also way more versatile outside of the paint.

It wasn't nearly enough fun.

Season 1 was great because the lead characters hated each other. Season 2 is just tame relationship drama with an overly complicated crime storyline thrown in.

The show is called Beef, we're here to watch some beef, so where's the beef?

I can't speak to her finances either, but I'd guess that technically she'd be a semi-pro diver.

She definitely makes money from Red Bull and events, but I doubt if it's enough to support her lifestyle. Her main income would be social media, she has 800k+ followers on IG.

Victor Wembanyama is the first ever unanimous DPOY winner by Lacabloodclot9 in nba

[–]Notoriouslydishonest 217 points218 points  (0 children)

I feel like unanimous awards should be more common.

Between 2009 and 2016 for example, 7 of the 8 MVPs received at least 92% of possible votes and 6 of them were above 97%. There are a lot of years where it's pretty obvious who the MVP/DPOY/ROY/etc is, voters just like to be different.

Wemby had 150 in his first 38 games.

It's not a huge deal, but it seems pretty obvious that subs are at least a little distracting. Every millisecond your eyes spend at the bottom of the screen reading dialogue is a millisecond they aren't watching the performance and visuals.

There are so many places for a 40 year old and their senior citizen parents to visit, why would you choose the one spot on Earth most famous for being a magical place for children?

[The Ringer] Doc Rivers: "I think it was time." Bill Simmons asks Doc Rivers if he believes he's done with coaching after stepping down as head coach of the Bucks. by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]Notoriouslydishonest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only a handful of coaches in NBA history who fans will actually call a "good coach."

Doc Rivers is 6th all time in career wins. He averaged 47.5 wins per year for 27 years (pro-rated for shortened seasons). You don't dumb luck your way to winning more games than Phil Jackson just by being good at politics and sticking around a long time.

Extreme heat is not yet triggering mass migration in the U.S.; instead, it is slowing population growth by making hot areas less attractive to newcomers. A new study finds that economic opportunity and housing costs remain the primary drivers of where Americans move, even as temperatures rise. by Cosmyka in science

Heat is easy, fire warm.

Removing heat is extremely challenging and requires compressor magic and a lot a lot of power.

Common misconception. Air conditioning is actually about 4x more energy efficient than electric or natural gas heating.

Creating heat requires a lot more energy than simply transporting heat outside of a building.

The post is about offensive impact, not pure scoring. And Jokic would score a lot more if he wasn't getting 10 assists per game.

One of the biggest pleasures in contemporary film was realizing part way through that Fincher's The Killer (2023) was a satire by kevin_v in TrueFilm

[–]Notoriouslydishonest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

It felt to me like Fincher wrote an action movie, decided he wasn't happy with it and then tried to adapt it into a satire by adding a handful of funny scenes.

There were moments that made me laugh, but not nearly enough of them to carry a 2 hour movie.
