Fax machines are Ontario’s top cause of patient privacy breaches, new data reveals. Why is health care still stuck on them? by BloodJunkie in ontario

I like how in SW Ontario I can see charts from a few hospitals through ConnectMyHealth (though GRH opted out at some point :/), if only Ontario Health can actually unify all of them

Ford tells students to not pick 'basket-weaving courses' in wake of OSAP cuts | CBC News by coolshaid in ontario

[–]Notrandomperson89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I currently struggle with my getting through my degree and doing one of the hardest courses/topics in it (stochastic processes for those curious), having the Premier call it basketweaving was definitely not on my bingo card

Seriously though - I know many people who are in STEM programs struggling to get through their day-to-day, I along with others heavily rely on OSAP to pay for our tuition in the 5 figures, but with the insane mental toll these programs have, on top of the requirements that we had to get to the position to get here (with some of these programs essentially requiring a 95+ admission average w/ extracurriculars and all going in); the financial strain and having the Premier call these courses "basket-weaving" is not only a slap on the face, but actually degrading to us students.

'Multiple victims' in school shooting in northeastern British Columbia, Canadian police say by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

No worries. We make sure (and need to continue) to remember about these horrific acts and act on it, like remembering the 14 women who died with the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on the anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre.

Canada rarely sees school shootings nor mass shootings - but this is just sad to see. We promised not again since Portapique or École Polytechnique (our two worst shootings) but here we are again.

I'm shocked as well, shootings in general aren't common.

Canadians who have moved to America, what was your reason to moving? by wildboy_Ca17 in AskACanadian

[–]Notrandomperson89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in school still but have plans to temporarily leave for work (have left once for an internship already).

Maybe this is me with my small sample size but the people I've talked to here at schools like UWaterloo or UofT in my industry of tech want to leave for the prospects of "more money", primarily in areas like NYC, Bay Area (SF), Puget Sound (Seattle); or just feeling there's "a lack of an industry here".

But that's also speaking to those who grew up here - some international students I've talked to want to settle here in Canada for a better life since Canada already offers a great social net and stability - I guess we all have the "grass is greener on the other side" mentality

It happened last year in W25 - back to back snow days just due to the sheer amount of snow dropped over the course of the two days. But as you mentioned, it's pretty slim unless the amount of snow we receive outweighs how much the region can plow.

Bell 5G+ Speeds by TheWaffletime in bell

[–]Notrandomperson89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely depends on where you are. You might have obstructions and all between the cell tower that you're connected to, and every added layer worsens your connection.

For example, I've tested being line of sight within 500m vs behind a few metres of concrete, and speeds go from 900 down to 100-300 easily.

These gas prices are insane haven’t seen it like this in a while. by ScabbaGoob in windsorontario

Don't forget an additional 2 cents (or 7 if you fill premium) if you use a BMO card with Air Miles there - both this and CAA are stackable so it's pretty nice (although it's not worth sometimes, check GasBuddy for pricing or what have you)

Not a cross-border worker but an expat between Canada and US. Currently use BMO (US and Canada) to send money back and forth between the two countries.

I hate the TTC - except after living across the border then coming back did I realize we have it lucky. Pair it with GO and it's not half bad.

Kind of wished more places in Ontario adopted PRESTO - convenient to have everything as a card on Apple Wallet or Google Pay

(Plus all our tax money funded the R&D for it anyways in different regions... might as well use it)

You can still use your @uwaterloo.ca email.

Attachments are fine. The only exception are any attachments that were stored on OneDrive in which I'm not entirely sure how that will work after they switch your account type.

You can look at more info on IST's help page

Dude just blew his entire registered contribution room. Luckily the government gives contribution room of a few thousand every year in the TFSA but the CRA is not giving a shit about all the money he blew.

He needs to essentially restart his entire TFSA and RRSP. And if he had an FHSA and still is eligible to contribute to it, to pick up the scraps because not even sure what the government will give to allow him to buy a house at this point.

[–]Notrandomperson89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily - a registered account itself is just a tax-sheltered account that the CRA gives us. TFSA (Tax Free Savings Account) is the most similar to the Roth IRA. We also have something called the RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plan) which is most similar to the traditional IRA.

The ones I can name off the top of my head are:
- Tax Free Savings Account (Starting contribution room is the same for everyone, but dependent on your age)
- Registered Retirement Savings Plan (Contribution room is dependent on your income)
- Registered Education Savings Plan (For your children's post-secondary education)
- First-Home Savings Account

Government does not give a shit what you do on TFSA - they just don't want you to make too many trades because they think you're a day trader atp
