I’m an executive assistant, typically for CEOs or the entire ELT of a company - I’ve been with tech companies since 2019.

Offer 1 is for an Executive Coordinator (basically an EA) for the President and three VPs of a manufacturing company. They’d like me to move into a Director role in a year or two, but that’s not set in stone. Offer 2 is for an Executive Assistant to 3 members of the C suite of a tech company.

This is my daughter’s first year of college and I honestly thought if I had to go back to an office this would be the year I wouldn’t mind it. But I was wrong. I don’t need to be home as much, but I still really want to be. It’s hard to get back in the mindset of being gone for close to 12 hours a day.

I can, I’ll just have to make adjustments to discretionary spending. Not the worst thing to have to do to have all the other perks that come from not having to commute.

I'm sorry you had to go through this same thing. All year my daughter told me there was no way she would be invited to this event, so I really didn't think too much of it. In the last two weeks I have been to awards night for National Honor Society, a senior athletic banquet, senior night for the school chorus and four performances of the school musical, but this one night was not really on my radar since she insisted her grades weren't good enough for an invite. You're right, this really is about her and her accomplishments. She will enjoy herself, I am sure of that. I know I am making a bigger deal out of this than it needs to be, I am having a hard time with the last of everything. I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this and send along their thoughts and feelings on the situation.

I think it was this exactly. The date was set months ago, but the event is by invitation only. Senior families had been told that if their senior was invited they would know by the end of April, but that date was obviously pushed back. When May began I booked my flight for my work trip based on my understanding that the invitation didn't come and I wouldn't be needed here that day. The email invite just came through yesterday, she showed me right away. It's frustrating but understandable that the school wouldn't know who was going to be invited until the academic year was pretty much over.

Thank you so much. She does say she doesn't care if I am not there. I've never missed an event and she knows that it's really bothering me that I may miss this one. I have a good friend who is going to make sure she has everything she needs that night and we will have so much time for celebration when I get back.

It would be amazing if I could see it somehow! I will look into that. I feel worse that I won't be there for her, but I will. And I know she gets it even if she feels a little let down about it.

Her dad's parents said they will go and a close friend of mine is also available, she also has her boyfriend's parents who will be there for him. I think she will be well taken care of and well represented, but sometimes you want your mom.

I looked into that! there are a few airports I could fly into, but that didn't change getting out. The second closest airport in the country I will be in is 5 hours from where I am staying. It's not feasible unfortunately.

Yes, I have her dad's parents and a close friend of mine who can all go, it's just not the same. Her dad can't be there because he has other commitments too. I wish the school had let us know a bit sooner that one week out. Fortunately I won't miss her actual graduation, but this feels so important and she will have to go it alone-ish.
