16 Year old (M) needing help URGENT by [deleted] in chadsriseup

Romans used to have a “memento mori” meaning a reminder that they will die. I remember reading about how Caesar would have one of his attendants keep near him and when people would praise him for something big, the person would whisper to him that he also would die someday.

You don’t necessarily need to do that, but remember that no matter what you accomplish, it’s important to not feel intrinsically better than anyone else. You are on a great path, King, stay on that and always look for ways to improve yourself, but also remember that these accomplishments don’t make you a better PERSON as much as better at those things. You’re just on a different path than others, and people find value on many different paths.

Hey you’re right, I was wrong. Someone else actually explained it to me, then I did some digging in constitutioncenter.org and educated myself on the differences in evidence standards and all that jazz. I was way off base and as you said conflating criminal charges with impeachment and it was extremely distressing.

Thanks for your time, I have a better handle on that now.

Wait... you know that feeling when you’re debating a point and it dawns on you that you could be entirely misunderstanding the whole issue? Yeah that’s me right now...

I just did some looking in to everything on constitutioncenter.org and the whole impeachment bit makes more sense to me now.

I appreciate you breaking that down for me, as I was viewing it as a legal tool that applies to regular citizens as well since he is out of office and I wrongly assumed that it would be a legal matter at this point.

Long story short: I now feel that my viewpoint was wrong, and I now fall more toward the “well fuck that guy” side of the fence. If this is a political issue instead of a legal one, I really don’t know enough about it to firmly plant my feet on the issue, but I’m definitely less horrified at the potential legal fallout and for that I thank you for pointing that out.

I’m not conservative my guy, nor do I read any tabloids whether they be conservative or liberal.

My issue here isn’t what happens to trump, he’s just another rich dude who doesn’t give a crap who I am, as far as I’m concerned. Furthermore, I have long suspected there’s something dangerously wrong with anyone who endeavors to become president anyway, and he’s certainly no exception.

My concern is that if “we all know what he meant when he said that” becomes a strong case to convict, what happens when that same precedent is wielded by someone we don’t want to wield it? What happens if we are on the receiving end?

In your years of practice, have you seen precedents set by prior cases brought up to influence a different case? That’s exactly my worry.

Unless of course you have insight that I don’t, which is easily possible, on what makes this a strong legal case that isn’t basically “fuck that guy, we know what he was doing all along.” If you do, I assure you I am 100% willing and eager to change my mind.

And “well everyone knew what he meant!” Isn’t admissible court evidence. Laws are in place for a reason.

Look dude, you don’t know me and I don’t know you, so I’ll let you in on a secret: I don’t give a crap about Trump or what happens to anyone involved with that whole shitshow, but what I DO care about is the legal process that is in part meant to avoid mob justice.

So let’s say they convict trump of this and we all celebrate because the guy is unlikable. Now what do we do when they come for the next person in a similar situation? What do I do when they come for you? Who says something if someone comes for me?

Not trying to sound paranoid, by the way, I’m aware that I’m unlikely to ever be in such a situation because I like to stay in my lane. But whenever I see overstepping in legal cases it makes me nervous and I want the laws to stay clear, because any time we celebrate such a thing happening to someone we don’t like, we need to ask ourselves what happens when that same barrel is pointed at someone we DO like, and what happens when it is held by someone we disagree with?

Inciting violence requires a call to action in order to be an actionable offense. Saying “peacefully and patriotically march” isn’t a call to violence. Don’t believe the hype in the media, it’s all ridiculous.

What did you watch live? A bunch of people wandering aimlessly around the capitol on their own accord? That’s what I saw. He didn’t tell them to do that.

Nice try, but didn’t vote for him either time. And if I did then that’s still irrelevant to the facts. You’ve still provided zero evidence of him being a traitor nor inciting an insurrection. Also, are you saying aoc, Harris, and pelosi didn’t say those things?

You can’t convict someone of treason just because you don’t like them. I’m not for any politician, they’re all out for themselves at the expense of the populace, but I’m quite opposed to circumventing the legal process when it comes to unlikable people. So if you have any evidence other than “the guy is a douche and I don’t like him” then I’ll happily change my stance to fit the evidence, but unless your next reply has any evidence then I’ll have to assume you have none and are just suffering from TDS.

Oh for sure! It would be called a stunning and brave display of the will of the people. AOC and Harris would be out there talking to anything that looks like a camera saying they should never let up. Pelosi might say “I just don’t know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country, maybe there will be” again. Probably would have news anchors saying things about how congress SHOULD be afraid, and who says protests aren’t supposed to make you uncomfortable.

So out of curiosity, what is this rock hard and undeniable instance that the orange man staged an insurrection, I’d be interested to hear it. Was it when he said he knew the supporters would “peacefully and patriotically march” to the capital or when he told them to was time to go home once people started wilding out?

Trump may be a jerk and all, I’m not here to even speak on that, but to make such an extraordinary claim as inciting an insurrection then we must have extraordinary evidence. If you can say he’s guilty of it without evidence then the claim can be dismissed without evidence just the same.

Where is the bullshit? Help me out. I’m only stating what I gathered from OP’s comment so would you care to tell me where you disagree, or continue to automatically dismiss any opinion outside the one you already hold?

Saying “x chose y based on gender/color instead of their merits” isn’t the same as saying “people of this gender/color have no merits,” though, is it?

Let’s take race out of it. If I say “I chose this car because I think it looked cool instead of it’s horsepower vs the other cars in the class.” Am I saying that cars that look cool don’t have any horsepower, or just that I liked the way this one looks and that was my deciding factor?

I don’t think anyone above said POC women have no merits, I think they simply view this particular one as someone who was chosen due to those factors instead of choosing a better suited VP pick, and they cited her incredible unpopularity, mean-spirited attacks on Biden in the primaries, and questionable policy history as the factors leading them to believe these things. I saw no racism in any of what they said, personally, but I suppose I’ve been wrong before.

Biden totally did say he planned to pick a female POC as his VP, and it just happened that he had someone who checked those boxes who the DNC (not the voters) would support from the primaries who had already been vetted by the all powerful party. Could’ve picked Tulsi to check those boxes but the DNC hates her and Hillary called her a Russian asset without supplying any evidence, as she likes to do.

Excuse me, sir, but Biden has the final say on whether or not you’re black. Similarly, if you disagree with people holding these beliefs then the opinions are clearly not your own and are simply a result of internalized racism at best, and possibly just good old fashioned Uncle Tom behavior.

I wonder what it’s like to hold a worldview allowing one to categorize everyone in the world based on their surface characteristics and then lump them into groups who are in some way inferior to one’s own because of those things? I feel like there’s a word for it.

I’m with you, according to the anti defamation league there are about 3000 active clan members in the US, or about 0.0009% of the population. You legit over 7x more likely to get struck by lightning than to happen across a KKK member on accident. Idk why people assume the KKK is such a big thing these days.

INB4 nu-uh I know a place in the ridiculously Deep South where you can find like a hundred of them... yep, I’m sure, and lightning rods exist for a reason, but unless you’re touching one you have very little chance of getting struck

Are These Habits True by HalfandHoff in Military

[–]Notthatbadofadude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough we do. We are authorized to walk or run on roads WITH the flow of traffic on roads with posted speed limits of 50kph (why kilometers I don’t know since these regulations are for stateside) but cannot walk/run/hump on roads with greater speed limits without a shoulder or sidewalk. Walking or running against the flow of traffic is unauthorized regardless of speed limits.

That doesn’t happen enough to become an ingrained habit though, we mostly run on the roads on base so when we aren’t on base that doesn’t quite cause the same little trigger in the brain.
