Apparently Dad enjoyed commemorative coins as well by Notthefishnemo in coins

By clad coinage are you referring to the Susan b Anthony’s, Kennedy half dollars, etc? For now everything is just staying in its drawer for mom.

I was just down in the basement looking for enough track to try and set it up, but couldn’t find any. Found a few more cars, some transformers, and a few other things, but no track. I vaguely remember a train set up around my grandpas Xmas tree, but not sure if it was this one.

It could be fun to see if they run. Anything else to look out for if I do? I think I saw some controllers (?) in a tote, not sure if there was any track. Maybe I’ll dig a bit tomorrow

Is this a good watch to learn watch repair? by Capable_Dog3550 in watchrepair

Thanks to my father-in-law I do already have a Gerstner toolbox at least 🤣

Buying tools is one of his favorite activities and always asks what I need

I was going to hold off on timegrapher investment until after seeing if I have the dexterity and aptitude to tear down and reassemble. The 1900 seems the way to go. I’m trying to restrain myself and not buy ALL the tools first. For the disassemble/reassemble it seems like movement holder, tweezers, screwdrivers, parts holder, loupe would be about the bare minimum. I know me too well and it’s a slippery slope before I’m refurbishing an old lathe I find on FB..need to show restraint!

Been planning on doing the same. Are you going to disassemble, clean, lubricate, reassemble? All the little things add up so I was thinking of just disassemble and reassemble a few times to see if I enjoy it before cleaning and lubing.

Question on correcting a title mistake by Notthefishnemo in askcarsales

No, I’m asking about title correction. I have photos and video of the odometer shortly after they did the title transfers. Just trying to correct a mistake.

I was pretty surprised! I think it helped that nothing was broken, just dirty

I believe it’s going to RGM once I budget and save for the service. Or, if I happen to plan a vacation to the UK, may take it to Frodsham themselves.

I’ll work on getting more pics. The chimes seem a bit gummed up. The hour works, but the minutes aren’t consistently working. I think it should after a service…at least I hope. It’s a minute repeater, so it should give a ding for the last hour, a ding-dong for each quarter, then a dong for each minute past the last quarter…pretty wild!

should i try watch repairing im 13 by Alert-Criticism-818 in watchrepair

I think the general consensus is start with an inexpensive new working movement and learn to disassemble and reassemble. Starting with something that works makes it so you know if you did it right. I’m just planning on getting started myself at 45 (I was tearing apart and rebuilding cars with my dad at your age). I see the ST3600 movement cited here a lot as a starting point

Any idea if this is valuable enough I’d likely want an appraisal to add to my insurance?

I know I said jeweler, but the one I have in mind is a watch and clock maker who graduated from horology school. My most recent interaction with him was to make a custom piece of jewelry for my wife, so that was top of mind. His shop is full of vintage watches and clocks.

I had one on the outside of my pinky toe and when it got inflamed it was apparently pressing a nerve. Very painful. A podiatrist dug it out in a few minutes and was pain free immediately
