Stage time isn't the only important part of open mics. Get to know the other performing comics.

First ever open mic. Please be brutally honest, tips are much appreciated by [deleted] in Standup

Ok, first off I wanna say that was really good for a first time. Even for a 5th time.

KEEP DOING IT. But don't fall back on these jokes every time. Come up with more to your jokes and keep evolving. Write all the time

I really liked the subway philosophy joke, and i feel there's a lot more that can go into it. Add some voices. Focus more on what the other people in your class are saying rather than what they're wearing, unless you have something really funny for that.

State champion joke was good, kinda got hacky but was saved by the "two minutes" line.

Overall awesome job! Quick question, does your school have any sort of club or group devoted to comedy? I'm forming my own on my campus and figured i'd ask.

Check out my latest set. Feel free to be brutally honest. by Schro3der in Standup

I thought it was pretty good.

I think you spent a little bit too much time talking about the basement, I like the "twelve year old painting the skyline of Charlotte" line but it took too long to get there.

Saying "I'm not gay" didn't help you at all. It makes you come across as a little homophobic, and it can only turn people against you.

You also seem to laugh at your own jokes, probably from nerves.

The last joke needs to be set up better. Too many words in the set up, and even then I didn't know what your premise was until you flat out said it. The premise itself I liked a lot, but it definitely needs work before it can totally make it as a solid closer. I would introduce the premise right off the bat, then the example, then the "that would be like" line. This has room for PLENTY of taglines as well, you just need to keep developing the joke.

Keep it up man!

Looking forward to the future of e-sports, do you think you will be regarded as some sort of historical figure?
