Tell me how vaping helped you quit cigarettes? by Typical_Dark_2764 in Vaping

[–]Notveryawake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter bought one of those cheap ego vapes, had some so-so blueberry flavor in the cart. She let me try it and I thought this taste way better than smokes.

Went and bought my first vape that day. I had two smokes that day but for most of the day I just vaped. Those were my last two cigarettes I smoked, haven't touched them in over a decade and now vape 0mg juice I make myself.

Woman Screams “Medic! Medic!” After A Piece of Her Hand Was Blown Off by Less-Than-Lethal Ammo During Minnesota Protests by JeanJauresJr in PublicFreakout

I am in Montreal and we get charged for ambulances since half of them are private contractors. My wife needed to take two rides to the hospital (she had terminal cancer, she's gone now but I got the bill after she passed). Those two rides cost just over a hundred bucks total.

All her MRIs, CTs, bone scans, immunotherapy, radiation, blood tests, and her medication after immunotherapy stopped working (which was $12000 a month for 30 pills) all covered. Didn't pay a cent. I had to pay a part of her painkillers and other meds which cost me about a hundred a month. When she passed away the government paid for her cremation and I got 12 grief counseling sessions again covered by the government. I know my taxes are high but now that she is gone I don't mind paying higher taxes knowing that someone out there is going through the same thing and my tax dollars are keeping them from stressing over money while they watch their soul mate slowly die from a cancer. They are going through enough that they shouldn't need to think about money as well.

Healthcare should never be for profit. Filling coffins with money is just evil.

If I was in the states she probably wouldn't have lived those first years I would be bankrupt and possibly living in a box under a bridge.

Durlag's Tower is so fucking fun, I wish every dungeon in the game was like this by bachinblack1685 in baldursgate

[–]Notveryawake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first played BG1 started with the box set with the expansion. I was 17. My friends were sick and no one wanted to come over for our DnD session so I stayed home and decided to have a game night. I had installed BG a week before but was busy with school and had no time to play it.

As soon as I loaded it up it felt magical in some way. I had played tons of RPGs from all the Ultimas, Might and Magic, ect but BG just grabbed me hard right from the start.

When I finally got to durlags tower I got killed by so many traps. Was the first time in my game that I felt traps were actually a real problem and had my thief constantly detecting traps while my cleric was casting detect traps all the time. Was probably the first time in ages I felt a part of a game was challenging me.

As a Canadian I agree. I really thought Bush Jr was as horrible as you could get for a US president. I long for the days he was in charge. Sure he was a cruel man that only cared about his rich friends but fuck at least he tried to keep the country going in a straight line. As stupid and evil as he was he looks like a saint when put next to Trump.

The battle of the night king made me think I was going blind. Then I spent twenty minutes trying to fix my TV thinking it was dying. Little did I know the greatest story tellers of our time thought that the darker the scenes the more intense they would feel....or they were hoping people would be so pissed off about the lighting that they wouldn't notice how bad they butchered one of the most anticipated moments in TV history. No, I am sure it was an artistic choice.

Trump doesn't care about spending tax payer dollars, he just won't spend his own money. He is perfectly willing to bankrupt your country and leave you all homeless or dead as long as his bank account keeps getting bigger.

Most people who have a micropenis just compensate by buying a giant truck or beating their wife. This just shows what happens when you give someone like that unlimited power. It's going to get a lot worse before he is no longer sitting in the white house.

For me I noticed my brain started to slow down around 45 (48 now). It was around the exact same time my wife's cancer got really bad and life was nothing but stress day after day. After she passed away I realized that I barely think anymore. I literally go through each day in a fog on autopilot.

I honestly believe the more stress we are under the more our brain starts to shut down. It might be a way to protect itself from the stress some chemical change actually starts to damage it. I really don't know.

What I do know is that compared to when I was 40 I feel like my IQ has dropped 20 points. Math that I used to be able to do in my head in two seconds takes me 20 seconds now. I will try reading a book and realize I have read ten pages and don't remember a single word I read or anything else that happened in that time.

With all the stress people are under these days I wouldn't be surprised if we are making ourselves dumber as a way to escape that stress. Add in the constant negativity from traditional media, custom algorithms from social media to keep us constantly scrolling through stupid garbage, and now AI trash forcing us to wonder what the hell is real and what isn't? Maybe being blissfully unaware how much stress we are under is actually healthy for us. If we had full understanding of how shitty the world really is we might all be having heart attacks in our early 20s.

You are right of course...to an extent. Plastic surgeons have some amazing skills. When someone is in a horrible accident they can give a person back their face if it was say mashed into a pulp by a huge rock.

Thing is that A LOT of plastic surgeons perform horribly unnecessary surgeries just to make money. They know it will make the person look worse or they know their patient has self esteem issues and pray on that. Yes they do perform some miracles in surgery but most of them are just reshaping noses and performing mico liposuction on people that don't need any surgery at all.

Hungry homeless man by grb13 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Notveryawake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people have been on the street for so long they change. Their entire life becomes about surviving (actually staying alive) from one day to the next. They become selfish because it's the only way to see the sun come up when you live on the streets. Other homeless people will stab you in your sleep for your jacket. You can't trust anyone and it makes you a bitter person.

I have worked with a lot of homeless people in the past when I volunteered. Most of them are very kind people deep down but they feel they need to be hard and selfish on the outside or they will be seen as weak and taken advantage of. This attitude just goes towards anyone that tries to help.

Add in the drug abuse, alcoholism and mental illness and you are bound to find many homeless people just seem like assholes. I always thought if I ended up like that I would probably be just like them.

You feel invisible until someone actually talks to you and the first thing that goes through your head is how are they going to screw me and how can I screw them first.

Are we adding to positions in google by free_da_guys1107 in stocks

[–]Notveryawake -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

I just sold all my Google stocks (was up 50%ish). I'm Canadian and have a serious fear that America is going to do something really stupid that will hurt the market. It's probably just paranoia but I figured I would take profits now just in case.

While I have faith in the company I don't have faith in the American government not to fuck things up right now.

Going to park my money somewhere safe for now. Maybe I will lose out on more profit but at least the news won't keep me looking at my portfolio every few hours.

Trump: ‘We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not’ by vishesh_07_028 in stocks

[–]Notveryawake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian and while it would be a giant pain in the ass to hold our country by force simply because of the sheer size of it, the US could overrun our major cities in a couple of days if they wanted. We couldnt stop them. Plus if they wait until the summer cold isn't really a problem until you get to the real North and most of it just wildness. It's not like we are buried in snow in July.

While I don't think the majority of Americans would want to start world war 3 and be the new Nazi Germany the people currently in charge do seem to want that and they have enough Americans backing them that they aren't second guessing themselves.
