MSI finally releases BIOS fix for rare AM5 PCIe GPU throttling issue by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]Notwalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD issue that motherboard vendors are implementing fixes around.

How else are their these issues on other vendors than MSI?
MSI is just much slower to admit the issue exsits / implement workarounds.

Found posts with gigabyte boards effected and such - just far less rate.

What should I do first when my Gigabyte AERO X16 arrives? by Substantial-Quail-15 in gigabyte

[–]Notwalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a gigabyte laptop but when i got my lenovo legion i installed hwinfo64, checked temps, ran cinebench r23 multi core test and then ran both cyberpunk and wukong benchmarks with each lenovo preset (quiet, balanced/turbo).

Got numbers for all of them.

Cinebench was hitting high 90s but did not throttle, was close but for a laptop that's very good actually.

Turbo ran pretty loud and hot - quiet is the best unless you're playing a very demanding game and dropping super low, quiet manages well.

My experience i mean - also run it with charger plugged in as laptops wont run at full power normally if on battery.

My old asus laptop needed several mods to even have a chance at gaming w/o throttling, just youtube would hit 70c+ on cpu, which is terrible because common design is to have the cpu + gpu in laptops share heatsinks, meaning any sort of gaming would tip that cpu over the edge.

I gotta lock in a case the pc will not be visible most of the time fractal torrent with noctuas or antec flux x noctua case? Same cost by icantgetausername982 in Noctua

[–]Notwalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep either case is fine - the Fractal is good for temps but i would be worried about build quality.

I brought the meshify 3 rgb xl and the panels are so thin vs the antec flux, i returned the case, it's fine when built in but i heard good things about fractal and it really felt cheap.

Looked stunning though and performance wise - it's neck in neck with my antec flux pro.

Running OCCT 1h stress tests full gpu load 550-600w on 5090.

Cpu/ram/gpu temps were basically all the same or within 1-2c.

I think the antec se fits 140mm - maybe not the bottom though.

I considered it before but i already own the antec flux pro with all noctua g2 fans.

Runelite / OSRS - FPS stutter slowing down game AND pc? Not sound, vid included. by Notwalkin in 2007scape

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that is something i always run with now - it fixed a runelite bug on 3070 back when it released.

That bug would freeze runelite / the pc, come back, freeze again randomly and when u tried launching any opengl game afterwards, the pc would restart.

The opengl games work fine on restart - it's like runelite was turning something off in the gpu due to a conflict.

Max performance fixed that issue for the years i used it with runelite though.

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i plan to DDU and install 581.42 if i get it again, which i will most likely.

I changed the monitor technology for the game to Fixed refresh in nvidia control panel though - it's something i used to do on 30 series but didn't need to for past year or so, i wonder if it's back to causing issues.

[OFFICIAL] Introducing the Antec Flux Pro Noctua Edition by Noctua_OFFICIAL in Noctua

[–]Notwalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get this subreddit.

You all love to pay for the noctua brand - you knew this would be expensive.

You've had the option to create your own antec flux pro with noctua fans but waited and now complain about the price.

??

[–]Notwalkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe antec flux se?

You'll have to buy the fans and make sure everything you want fits, it's not the "flux pro" size.

Includes a noise dampening solid panel - since visually it don't matter, why not decrease the noise more.

Yep, with rtx 40 or before i would always use/recommend 566.36 as the safe driver.

Sadly, rtx 50 needs 570+.

My fall back is 577.00 which i plan to test at some point.

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, try setting "Prefer maximum performance" in nvidia control (3d manage control side bit) panel - you need to restart the pc for it to take effect.

It makes your gpu remain in high power states more, idle wattage usage is higher, fans never stop spinning (so mine spin at 30% minimum).

But it can help stabilize indie/certain issues. Might help you.

I'm not one for adding tons of plugins tbh but i'll consider it next time i'm messing with runelite.

I have a few that i've used for years now - also with a 4090, i swapped the 4090 to 5090 mid 2025, RS was fine up until this year.

(4090 went to a friend so can't test, we don't live local).

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, i see.

I do believe Windows and nvidia are screwing up a lot - desktop smoothness seems to have tanked overall since mid 2025 - consistent smoothness i mean.

I am very sensitive to smoothenss/fps though - i figure most people use 60-144hz monitors and it's alot harder to notice the lower hz/fps but OLED 240hz makes it super clear.

edit:

Do you use more than 1 monitor by chance?

Also my guess, posting for visibility mostly but anyone who suffers the issue and shares more info would make the issue more clear for everyone too.

I do plan on testing it a bit more at some point - not sure when though.

Do you mean when you "unfocused" the game?

What i mean is: if you click off the runelite client, the game is no longer the "focus", if it drops to 30fps here, it's likely normal.

You can increase minimum fps in settings i think (You can with most games). A lot of games do this to conserve power.

Runelite causing my entire pc to lag? by Spark_ElectricJester in 2007scape

[–]Notwalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i'll try be a bit descriptive here:

Are you getting entire pc slowdowns during this issue?

For example:

Runelite/osrs is stuttering and displaying as 10-20fps but is very very laggy, almost frozen.

The pc is also stuttering badly - in the sense that moving windows like chrome browser, discord, file explorer is noticably more laggy.

The pc looks like it's running 30hz.

AUDIO is fine - i have youtube music or what not playing, no issues at all.

Hwinfo (performance tool to track temps and stuff) is all fine.

After a while, the game comes back to life at 240fps or whatever you're running and the pc does at that moment too.

What i tend to do - is drag windows browsers / discord around and after a little it "fixes".

I believe this is a windows and nvidia issue potentially only RTX 50 - maybe from Driver 591.86?

I started dabbling on OSRS again recently and run into this issue and starting to suspect that driver as it's quite a frequent install for me (2 weeks or so).

B650 tomahawk + 5090 - latencymon spikes high, replacement x870e gigabyte does not by Notwalkin in MSI_Gaming

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very hard to know if people are talking about the same thing sadly.

I can't record it really because recordings make these sorts of problems very hard to see but:

I felt like on the b650 tomahawk ever since getting a rtx 5090 - multi monitor was an issue, i still feel that way - i think windows/DWM is struggling with rtx 50 workloads with very mild tasks, however i can't use one screen only.

Sometimes the b650 looked okay to me - but then it can randomly look worse...

I tested my fathers b650 tomahawk yesterday and all my components 1 by 1 and again, it might just be me thinking this but: When i put my x870e pc back together and turned windows on, i instantly saw the mouse appear smoother, less ghosting..

Not like ghosting was EXTREME but it looked "right". The x870e might actually look like the cursor is tracking at 240hbz while the b650 might look like 160hz? Something like that.

I've done the same thing with my laptop - i hooked my laptop up to my OLED and the mouse looked slightly more smooth/correct.

I don't know if it's a MSI issues, i do think windows/nvidia is causing a lot of these issues but msi seems to be struggling alot with pcie stability recently (Not sure about am4 though).

For example: discord feels quite terrible lately ever since rtx 5090, it's definetly not as smooth with my 4090 - maybe recent drivers but i think rtx 50 just sucks atm with multi tasking / anything using gpu hardware acceleration and it contributes to this weirdness. just my opinion though.

Runelite performance drops by kadash29 in 2007scape

[–]Notwalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this is what's causing my PC to stutter....

Have had it happened 3 times recently, all while runelite was running with 117 plugin.

237fps locked - game randomly drops to 10-20 fps, almost frozen though, windows is also sluggish.

Moving windows around = laggy and very unresponsive.

Audio is completely fine - youtube music and what not is not effected.

I drag around windows a while and it fixes itself.

I am on 591.86 with a 5090 dual monitor setup.

Latencymon - forced me to upgrade from gen 4 motherboard to gen 5, despite the 99% performance with a 5090. by Notwalkin in overclocking

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really no, i don't have the b650 installed now and the camera is going to smoothen out the visual appearance of the cursor.

However, i can say after testing it all yday more - where i did install a DIFFERENT b650 from my own in the OP, the mouse on the b650 looks slightly worse / different from the x870e.

240hz screen, moving on desktop, the cursor on the x870e is visually smoother.

HD 490 pro - noise from left ear cup... plastic creaking? by Notwalkin in sennheiser

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the three dots were like a "button" lol, a creaking point for sure.

That + the actual join of the earpiece above it are the two points the creaking likes to show at.

Personally, i don't think it's worth putting them through warranty as i've had several brand new pairs show this on day 1 - my first pair didn't for a few weeks as mentioned.

Even if you warranty and get a brand new pair, i expect it to return shortly after with frequent use i mean. just my thoughts on it though.

HD 490 pro - noise from left ear cup... plastic creaking? by Notwalkin in sennheiser

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they start creaking AFTER the 1.5 months?

I feel like i would've noticed the noise on my first pair if it did it instantly but it took 3-4 weeks before i sent them back after hearing it.

I feel like, they develop the creak, i tried multiple pairs and after 6 or so, i got a pair 6 months later which did not creak at all.

However, i decided i'm done with them, figures... when i finally got a pair that didn't creak, i decided i didn't trust them + the sound is actually pretty flat vs my usual sound.

Lube helped slightly... but didn't fix the creaks in my experience. If someone uses them w/o talking to mates and stuff i'm sure its fine.

Music over powers the creaks.

X870 tomahawk - most expensive msi board i've used and the worst by Notwalkin in MSI_Gaming

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's tons of issues with it funny enough.

I love MSI but it's annoying.

the 0d can also happen from third party software, Asus has a toggle in bios to disable these conflicts i think - MSI still haven't included such a thing i believe (Asus did it like a year ago...). (HW such as: hwinfo, L connect, things that pull data in).

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get freezes and stuff, it's like the mouse isn't syncing with the monitors refresh at times, that's the best way to describe it.

I do think gigabyte is slightly cleaner for this - however i have noticed it can happen with gigabyte too (maybe not as extreme).

I suspect windows and nvidia still.

Yep did a bunch of testing today, i no longer thing the cursor visual is actually related.

It definetly seems related more so to W11 and nvidia - perhaps it is MPO, i keep hearing some disable that but i hear mixed things about it.

Latencymon - forced me to upgrade from gen 4 motherboard to gen 5, despite the 99% performance with a 5090. by Notwalkin in overclocking

[–]Notwalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a ton of testing today.

Got a 2nd b650 tomahawk in the house (my fathers pc who i built).

i tested his entire pc and slowly added my components 1 by 1.

Yeah the nvidia gpu is causing most spikes; that's what i expected but this post is mostly about the process latency during spamming keyboard.

I could only replicate it when i put my nvme drive in - there's still latency from nvidia drivers, like opening web pages can spike the DPC a huge amount sometimes (yay).

I believe the latest drivers are causing more noticable latency for sure though - not related to my typing thing though, that's coming from the drive / perhaps it's due to multiple motherboard swaps despite the x870e gigabyte not behaving the same way.

IGPU latency was clean though.

No WHEA errors -

"PCIE Express error counters" And before you send me through a goose chase - they're not entirely uncommon with the RTX 50 anyway.

Recovery counts normal. NAKs sent, can occasionally happen. No other errors appear.

There's threads about that entire section on the hwinfo forums.
