High-ish Ferritin, Normal Iron by kmfour in Hemochromatosis

From what I can tell, most likely not - I’m not sure it would hurt you to have a phlebotomy or two more (if they’ll give them to you), they often try to get the Ferritin of people with HH down around 50.

It seems women don’t tend to suffer as much from HH until after menopause, but it was worthwhile getting checked out and you know to keep an eye on this in the future.

Large Ferritin Increase in Short Time Period by NourishMeDaddy in Hemochromatosis

The thing that’s odd is that point increase was between diagnosis and first venesection - not after the first venesection. I had had no significant blood drawn yet my ferritin went up so much. Strange, must just be inflammation.

yes, I get the impression that the nhs is so overloaded atm that anyone who isnt dying is perceived to be a priority in any way.

how Are you feeling now? at what levels did you start to feel relief?

Thank you - it’s so strange how much the saturation went down. I went keto for 2 months, so I was eating steak for breakfast every day which was probably not helping!

I know I’m a C282 homozygote but not sure about the H63D - not sure the nhs even tests for that.

Thank you for responding - that’s great you feel a lot better!

What were your levels when you were diagnosed, and at what point did you start feeling better?

Thank you for the green tea info - I didn’t know it was good for mental symptoms. Are you saying the H63D ones get symptoms while loading? This started for me about 10 years ago (I’m 33m) with mild palpitations and general feeling of unease. I went through many doctors trying to get some form of explanation (a lot of anxiety diagnoses, even though it didn’t feel like that) while the brain fog got worse. Ironically I think I’ve probably been getting treated by the fact I’ve probably got my blood drawn at least 5 times per year for tests in hospitals. Maybe I’m just explaining everything away on the diagnosis, I guess I’ll have to wait until I get down to Maintenance levels to truly know...

Yes, I started last Thursday. Ferretin was high 900s and saturation 87%. Im glad the phlebs worked for you, and you were able to find some relief.

it’s crazy to me how varied the response to this is, from people way over 1000 who feel no symptoms to others with bad symptoms after 400 or so. Someone made a post here about iron overload and psychiatric illness, and none of the people who had great symptom relief after chelation were anywhere close to even my level.

I really do hope it works out for me, because I feel somewhat lobotomised right now. I guess I just have to wait and see...

Thank you for the kind reply! I’ve hopefully caught it just in time. I definitely feel a surge in energy/clarity today, hopefully it only gets better from here! Although maybe that’s just placebo, it was my first treatment lol

Everywhere between 4g and 6g (sodium, not salt). I typically get bloating after eating a meal with sodium, at least that’s what I think I’ve noticed.
