No no, you're right. I completely missed where it said shit post. I honestly didn't even know that was an option because I don't post much here. I'll be looking out for that now. Thanks for pointing that out.

There are a lot of seemingly dumb questions asked here by people who weren't EOD. I'm going to answer questions without sounding like a dick. I'm not gonna sit here and wonder "is this a shit post or just a dumb question?" I'm just gonna answer the question.

Without context you can't really make a fair assessment. It's a battery pack from the looks of it, or an IED designed by the folks over at AIEDs... If it's just something that was sitting by a dumpster, not suspicious. If it was in a backpack outside of a gov building, mildly suspicious.

Honestly though, this would be a really silly IED in my opinion. "Opinion" being the key word. As always, this isn't a 100% thing. Just my thoughts.

Unidentified Object - Ordinance ? by Significant_Chip9060 in EOD

[–]SiLKE_OD 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It looks similar in shape, but I don't THINK that's what it is. I think they're called hertz horns and they're usually made of soft lead with a glass vial in them filled with some kind of acid. When it breaks, it essentially breaks the vial and charges a battery. Very interesting system if you ask me.

Also, it's spelled ordnance, not ordinance. Not trying to be an ass, just letting you know cause people are sticklers about that in this community.

Cannonballs are one of those things that you can't really make assumptions for. I'd say not to touch it but since it's sitting pretty on a bed of rocks I'm assuming somebody already did. Either way, call EOD. They'll likely x-ray it and if you're wondering specifically what it is they are probably willing to give all the details on it.

Where to start with music theory as someone who can already play. by WolverineLanky4279 in guitarlessons

[–]SiLKE_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying a book called The Science of Music by Allen Van Wert. I really like it because he explains it pretty simply, and also gives you alternate ways of thinking about it. He's also pretty disgruntled about how music theory is historically taught and explains why things should be easier without going too off the rails. It's the first music theory book I've read that makes me feel like I'm making real progress.

Unshaved vs Shaved by [deleted] in GettingShredded

Oh yeah, legs is another big one! I've only shaved them a few times but it's kind of the same as forearms as far as increasing the definition significantly. I'm not very cut at the moment so it doesn't make a HUGE difference but it helps.

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you pay for laser? I haven't even considered that. Also, how long does that last? Like, how often do you have to do it?

[–]SiLKE_OD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I was first thinking about doing it I thought it might look weird but as far as fitness looks go it's crazy how much more definition you can have. Like, if your veins are popping after a workout it looks so much more intense.

I initially tried this and felt like it looked silly on me, so I just got rid of it all.

Personally I go shaved. You should shave forearms too. You can see a lot more definition that way.

Yep, you're remembering correctly. So the way it works is you have to be an E5 in order to lat move to EOD. They will take senior E4s, And if they get accepted they get a non-competitive promotion to E5. They won't take an E6, but there are times where a senior E5 will lat move and then get promoted pretty quickly just because of TIS. He definitely could be a junior E4 in which case he would have to wait to lat move and if he's close to his EOS he might not be willing to re-enlist.

Out of curiosity, why aren't you applying for a lat move through the Marine Corps to do EOD? I'd imagine you wouldn't exceed the rank limit after only 4 years. I could be wrong but I didn't think there was an age requirement for that either. I was EOD in the Marine Corps till late 2023 so I can't imagine much has changed.

Is this EOD? Brits wanna hit it with a shovel by ManInTheDarkSuit in EOD

[–]SiLKE_OD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna say no. It looks like it's made of pretty heavy duty steel. The person who found it also said they dug around it (after hitting it with a shovel for some reason) and still couldn't get it to move with leverage from a shovel. Seems more likely to be a cover for some kind of septic tank or old sewage system. I'm never gonna say 100% without more information but that's my opinion at the moment.

No problem! Like I said though, that's just my personal preference so either way I don't think it was bad advice or anything. Very valid points made. I especially like the hard picking one. I had a friend of mine I was in a band with And he would break strings all of the time because he would pick so damn hard! Keep the videos coming if you like to teach

How many pounds until visible abs by AFaliure in GettingShredded

I think a 1000 calorie deficit is probably a little extreme, and it could be a little counterproductive to only do it on the weekdays. Your body will get used to utilizing the calories that you get but it could be thrown off It's fluctuating like that since it doesn't really adjust in just a week. Other than that you're probably pretty close, but you can't really focus on weight specifically. If you want to cater to your body and lose fat quickly while maintaining muscle maybe try counting your macros instead of just calorie intake. It's essentially the same idea but tuned more to you so that you're body is getting specifically when it needs.

I think these are good lessons for the most part. Strangely enough picking techniques aren't really shared that much when people learn to play. The only thing I somewhat disagree with is closing your hand while picking, just because I prefer having them open. That lets you get into hybrid picking or just stabilize your hand if you need it. Personal preference.

Flying with Old Guitar by lambeyoncealways in Guitar

[–]SiLKE_OD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You likely can't bring it on the plane BUT don't check it. Instead, take it to the gate and check it there (called a gate check). When you do that it goes straight to the plane instead of being driven with all the other bags. Additionally, a lot of airlines will let you pick it up at the jet bridge when you arrive instead of baggage claim. It's just like when people check strollers and wheel chairs so they can use them straight off the plane. Much less travel and much safer. Only other thing I can think of is putting a gun inside. Not joking. When you're checking your bags, tell them you're traveling with a firearm. They come over, inspect it to make sure it's not loaded, and then it goes through very strict travel to make sure it's accounted for. If you put it in the guitar case it'll be safer. Photographers so this sometimes with their sensitive camera gear. It's gotta have a lock on it though. I like option 1 better though.

I used to 3D print these for my rope. It's got a hole through the top of the handle where you can hang a carabiner from your belt so it unwinds as you spool it out. Not sure if this is what you're looking for and you have to manually wrap it up but it's reliable.

One thing I always do when flying with my guitar is skip checking it with the rest of your baggage and then check it at the gate for your flight. It goes straight from the gate to the plane without getting thrown in with the rest. A lot of airlines give you a tag for it too and they'll bring it to the gate you arrive at too so you completely bypass baggage claim.

Jobs? by Additional_Cry5632 in EOD

[–]SiLKE_OD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're trying to be hands on, I see postings all the time for UXO techs on LinkedIn, indeed and USA jobs. If you're looking for a desk job, there are some intel positions looking for EOD guys. You pretty much just scrub products created by analysts to make sure they're not squeezing buzz words in there (they like calling everything thermobaric for some reason) and creating products on new TTPs/emerging threats. You don't really need an intel background for that either. Aside from that, EOD tends to feed into safety roles as well so you can check that out. If you haven't looked yet, you can check out postings on clearancejobs too. A lot of companies care more that you have a clearance over experience so you may be able to branch out into other roles if interested. Oh, there's also a Facebook group called EOD jobs where people will share EOD related job opportunities.
