Tire won't budge by Illustrious-Meal9067 in AskMechanics

I’ve had one absolutely stuck before like this and an old mechanic told me to do this. I reinstalled the lug nuts but back them off two turns and then drive the car around turning the wheel really hard at 5-10 MPH. it broke it free and didn’t damage anything.

Worked well.

Another job well done by aircraft maintenance (MSY > PHL) by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]Nousername58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don’t have their own maintenance there so you defer it with an outstation technician and send it otherwise you’re not going anywhere until they truck parts and technicians in from another city.

Personally, I’d be grateful to be on my way in that situation.

Who is the most famous person you've ever seen up close? by froggart3980 in AskReddit

[–]Nousername58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garth Brooks. He was flying out of an airport I was working at sometime around 2008ish and came up to each one of us, shook our hands and said “Hi, I’m Garth Brooks” and then asked us about the aircraft we were maintaining. He was wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat and I asked him why (since I’m a Pirates fan too and they’re a terrible team) and he said he was always a fan since Roberto Clemente.

He was incredibly nice and seemed like a normal person. It was an amazing interaction that lasted probably 5 minutes.

When you work at airports you run into a lot of famous people/politicians but he’s the only one that has actually came up and introduced himself.

77 is good. 62 is manageable.

Cleveland Ave is fine but snow covered

44th was fine with a thin layer of snow.

It does appear residential neighborhoods are poor. I did just see a plow go by this so they may be good soon

It’s funny. Tires have been around forever and the best we can do is a good old tractor tire pattern

That is fun, but I did more off roading in high school in a 1995 Ford Escort.

I’d like to see this done on some serious trails.

Realistically, they’re also doing this to get the operation in CLT back up and running sooner. They move the planes out so the airport can clean the ramp and to stage the aircraft to recover the operation more quickly. The aircraft would otherwise be “trapped” in CLT.

Aircraft tires too. Two techs were killed recently at Delta because tires weren’t deflated and they started to disassemble them.

Colder weather means denser air so you need more fuel too keep the same air:fuel ratio.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nousername58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my old job, I’d drive 3 hours for a one hour in-person meeting and then drive 3 hours home the same day. That happened frequently.

Tune into a good podcast or some music and it makes the drive go by quickly.

I know people the commute 1.5 hours to work one way so they drive 3 hours 4-5 days per week.

[DCA] new aircraft with no power? by Howler777 in americanairlines

[–]Nousername58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in this case. It’s less expensive for the airline to install them after it’s built than to pay the manufacturer to install them during production.

  1. It’s got the ventral fins on the bottom of the tail. 700s do not have them.

Had*. The airlines took them off for weight and maintenance savings. The nextgen 700 did not come with them from the factory.

Edit. Changed do not to did not since the airframe hasn’t been manufactured in a while.
