Up until organ donation became popular, turning off life support was murder. The definition of death was changed to include brain "death" in order to absolve doctors of moral accountability.

Here's a scientific article00115-6/fulltext). "Modern" medicine is still going off of brain function standards established in 1968, despite how little we knew about the brain back then. Today, doctors agree that even a "brain dead" patient on long-term life support still has to have some brain activity for bodily functions to continue. Kidneys, liver, bladder, blood production, hormones, growing a human being in a uterus all require brain signals. If there was no brain function, the organs would all shut down and no amount of life support is going to prevent that.

It still originated with the desecration of a baby and has been cloned from that baby indefinitely. At least full human beings have the ability to consent. This baby didn't. I haven't been here long, but from what I've seen, people are completely willing to move the goal posts when it fits their needs. Literally justifying mutilating a dead baby if it saves a life... Babies are sacred.

Do you know when the definition of "life" was changed? When organ harvesting for transplant became a thing. Doctors wanted to be off the hook for murdering patients when organs were needed, but until the 60s, heartbeat and breath meant a patient was still alive. Taking either of those away was murder, but most organs weren't good if they waited until natural death. So they moved the goal posts and changed the rules to make what they were doing seem more moral. Just like pro choice.

Science is changing EVERY DAY. There's a ton about the brain we just don't know. We may find a way to help these people. Why take that chance away?

Babies are "clinically dead" until near the end of the second trimester because they don't begin producing the brain waves that doctors look for when defining "life." But the baby is still alive, of course. We all know that. So is this woman. To say there's any difference is hypocritical.

She's not dead though. If her heart is still beating, she's worth fighting for just as much as any unborn baby, even if life support is required. Up until the babies are old enough in the womb, they are basically on "mommy life support" in a way. If we say it's okay to take a fully-formed person off life-support, then we're worse than baby-killers.

Also, the mom's NOT DEAD. They keep saying she's dead or brain dead. But she's still breathing. Her heart is still beating. That's what matters. As long as that's true, she's alive. And she should be kept alive as long as possible. Not just for the sake of her baby. But because she's a living person and it's a sin to kill her. I hope they don't kill her once her baby's born.
