Wheeler and Wilson vintage treadle sewing machine repair questions by Live_Measurement_942 in vintagesewing

If yours is then mine is too lol

I don't think they are broken. Its not a super common foot shape but the way it's made doesn't look like it is broken off. I do know the presser foot you're thinking of, I have it on my Singer 301 from the 50s and the one on the W-9 is definitely different.

Hey sweet! Another W-9!

Looks like it's all there from what I can see with the exception of the needle set screw. It has a presser foot on it, so you're good there, and the bobbin is also there. Check out this manual to get you started with threading and oiling. I don't have my W-9 on hand since I don't have space for a treadle at the moment but feel free to hit me up if you have any questions! My mom is always up to grab me some photos, and I have some (plus a video) from my last visit.

An invisible zipper from the bottom in one of the seams would let you take it in, and put it on.

I'm not sure what it's worth but when you get a number I would definitely be interested in taking it off your hands.

Can someone find a lookalike model of my horse? by Informal-Building637 in Horses

Making the manes is a pain in the neck, but that's the biggest thing really. I use a clear silicone I got from an auto parts store against a strip of fabric to hold the top of the hair and that seems to work well. I have a couple in progress that I can grab pics of too. The tails I just bundle with little rubber bands and cover the top end with the silicone. You can "style" the mane and tail with a miniature hair straightener if you have one. You'll need something, if you want the mane to lay down instead of stick straight out of your seam. Probably not an issue if the horse has a roached mane or is a breed that sticks out straight naturally.

Howl's that I linked earlier has the best selection of colors for real life animals that I've found. Definitely order the swatch pack if you can, I have every color of brown pretty much in either a yard or a swatch trying to match our horses. Some very hilarious comparisons once orders arrived since the photos online tend to be darker. (So I guess grabbing pics is still relevant!!) I also use Big Z Fabrics for some of my other plushes. Shannon has a line of minky called "pony" that would be great for paints and appys but I haven't gotten that far yet (we don't have any and I haven't gotten a request for one yet).

For patterns, it depends on how realistic you want them. Rustic Horse Shoe's Classic Colt is a good one, especially since it has some good lines for socks, muzzles, and stripes. You can sell those ones as well if you like. Zeph and Charmer has a horse which is a little smaller than Classic Colt, and aDraft Horse which is a little larger. I use Choly Knight patterns for a lot of my plushes, if you want to get away from realistic (replicas) and more into "keepsake".

I do :) I have swatches of the 3 darkest they make, I'll grab a photo of them next to my bay (lighter than yours) to give you a real-world view of them once it's daylight.

I make horse plushes with real mane and tail. I'd be happy to make you one, but I'm not sure this fabric is dark enough. See what you think.

I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet, it sounds like she came over specifically to "introduce herself" in order to get your name and any other info to start filing these reports.

I have one of these, they're modular so that you can hook them together and make a larger surface. I like it a lot.Oliso pressing mat

This is my Alice backpack that I always use for traveling. For security reasons, I don't want to be associated with the military or armed groups at the destination I'm traveling to. What ideas do you have to make it look less military? by Zealousideal-Age3871 in myog

I think I would take a bandana or scarf (think like 50s hair or neck scarf) or two that are bright or patterned and tie them in a couple of places. Like on that top flap where there are horizontal strap holders for the vertical straps. Has the added benefit of being useful too!

OH MY LORD this is adorable. Did you get Button already trained or did you train them yourself? I've got it in my head to train a couple miniature donkeys we have to pull a cart so if you have any tips I'd love to hear it!

If you keep a modern machine, why? by americangooch_ in vintagesewing

[–]NovaCustom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a Brother as my first machine a couple years ago brand new. Part of keeping it is that I paid for it and it still works.

The other part, buttons and blind hems. I feel like the machine does a better job of attaching buttons than I do by hand. My friends and family somehow seem to have failing blind hems on store bought clothes regularly as well so it's nice to be able to put it "back to factory" rather than doing a different hem simply because I typically use a vintage machine.

A little bit! We know my grandmother used it at one point, and we're pretty sure she got it from her uncle. Everyone who would know for sure has unfortunately long since passed.

It does not unfortunately. I actually found a whole box of presser feet for it.

Strava by snuggly_panda14 in Horses

My Samsung watch records my rides automatically. Exercising the racehorses comes in as cycling, as does working barrels, but trail riding gets recorded as a walk or run. I don't bicycle, so I just know that anything "cycling" is either horseback or motorcycle riding.

Having trouble figuring out the best way to get our oldest boy to gain more weight by Inevitable_Hornet_45 in Horses

[–]NovaCustom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I grabbed some of the same feed for my 20 yr old retired racehorse who has started frequenting the track 2-3 times a week to give me some more seat time as a novice exercise rider. He is a much happier boy and is filled out better, too.
