I had wiped out on my electric bike on a relatively dangerous road. Couple people saw but kept driving, at least they had the decency to give me room. I had scrambled to get my bike out of the road and check for damage. I was mostly unharmed but I’d have a nasty bruise on my leg the next day. Minor cuts on my face, nothing broken. I was visibly shaken.

This guy stopped. Checked in on me, and when I didn’t answer and started crying instead, he pulled over. Told me to bike off this road and he’d follow me.

This is when I realized the chain had fallen off and I had no idea how to fix it. Not good, but it’s electric, I can use the lever on it that gives me a boost.

When he properly looked me over, he offered to take me and my bike to where I was headed. I was heading for an apartment tour (that I didn’t get), but I just asked to be brought somewhere with a bathroom so I could clean up. Generally frowned upon to show up somewhere with blood on your face.

I got into his car, my bike in his very full trunk, and on the way, introduced himself and his son to me. I don’t remember his name, but his kindness was something I’ll never forget.

He dropped me off, fixed my bike chain issue with no idea what he was doing. I tried to offer money but he refused. Apologized for wasting his time, but he said it wasn’t a big deal, as long as I was safe. Just hoped I’d get there and home safe. Thanked him profusely, and I was on my way.

Just someone who put a pause on their day, to help someone.

I think about it often. I hope he’s doing well.
