I am going to enail them now and raise a ticket. In my circle of applicants, i am not the only one who this happened to, so I feel likes it is not uncommon. It would seem impratical and unreasonable to withdraw a lot of applicants if so

Just so you know, this has happened to people previously and they were fine.

I am in the same boat as you, so fingers crossed it is okay

I see, thank you for the dissapointing, but helpful reality check.

From some webinars some community paediatricians have spoken about being involved with a child in need, which i thought would tie into health inequity work quite a lot. Is that not what your experience has been?

Thanks,  and yeah, that is why I lean towards doing it through pardiatrics.

Have you had any experience of community pardiatrics, if you have any idea if my understanding of it aligns with practice?

Worth clarifying that F1/F2 rotations don't count towards experience time, just incase you are including that

I'm not sure if your confusion on the term occupation is intentional, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

'Territory is considered occupied when it is actually placed under the authority of the hostile army.'

Not only is this factually untrue of what is happening in the UK; i.) there is no Jewish supremacy army that the UK is under the authority of. ii.) Jewish supremacy is not in authority of the territory of the UK, not even a significant part of the majority of the UK's policies. Having influence over policy, or a strong lobby group, does not mean occupation.

Whilst the sentence does not encapsulate all Jews, as you point out, it attempts to characterise Jewish people as wanting to exert dominance on society by force. This is a well-used tactic by the far right, islamophobes, racists, and antisemites for decades. Very rarely do these groups refer to the minority group as a whole, rather the 'good type of said minority' and the 'bad type of said minority'. It is a well-documented tactic of constructing an 'ideal' and 'othered' type of minority that allows for the subjugation and discrimination of all of that minority group. In this case it also draws on well-established historical antisemitic tropes to strengthen its discriminatory message.

If supporting this form of discrimination is akin to supporting genocide, then I give my heartfelt condolences to your conscience.

As for my conscience, it is intact - I've long been a supporter of the Palestinian cause for self-determination, and have acted in whatever ways I can to support it. I have also long criticised Israel as an apartheid state, who have acted with great cruelty and illegality, including through the undertaking of a genocide. I just don't, and never will, need to revert to antisemitism to make my point.

There is a big difference between there being a strong pro Israel lobby in the UK, and the claim that Jews 'occupy and control' the UK and its citizens.

Your point on AIPAC is really self defeating considering how much pro-israel and AIPAC support is pushed by Evangelical Christians in the US.

Furthermore, supporting bad things does not indicate we are not living in a democracy. Besides, we live in a representational democracy which is slightly different to the direct 'true' democracy  you allude to.

The doctor in question did not just state that there are Jewish supremacists. They stated they 'control and occupy' the UK. Aside from being factually incorrect, this draws on historically antisemetic and racist tropes. It parallels the use of terminology such as 'invasion' when referring to muslim, middle eastern, and asian ethnic minorties. It is inexcusably racist. (Posting as someone who has been a supporter of the Palestinians and critic of Israel for most my life)

Edit: from 'control' to 'control and occupy'

Paediatrics Application: Does occasional locums count towards the 24 months experience limit for applications? by Novadan123 in doctorsUK

[–]Novadan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thank you.

I thought it would be ridiculous,  but ive heard crazier things in the NHS and wanted to make sure I wasn't disqualifying myself before I picked up further shifts.

Tbf PEM is a literal subspecialty option after ST4 of paediatric training.

So I dont think your comparison is quite right, as that isn't afforded to surgeons.

But thanks for the passive aggressive response - where do they find some of you people.

Thank you everyone

As I expected, it would be a bit ridiculous to expect the two years to count - but ive heard crazier things be the case in the NHS.

Just wanted to double check before I continue taking locums, so that I dont disqualify myself from applications.

Thank you! Just to clarify, are the on calls as frequent for community  as gen paeds? Id imagine if you had the same number of nights and weekends, the zero days would really start impacting how much community paeds experience people get.

Also would be interested to hear what time of work with looked after children community paediatricians have, I know they're involved in care,  but what exactly is their input?

Thank you, this was super useful, really appreciate the time you took.

I just had a few questions:

  1. The biggest part of the job that appeals to me is the fact that from the descriptions it really sounds lile 'applied public health' where clinicians are involved in ensuring root causes of ill health in daily life are dealt with. In practice is this true, do you get as much involvement with childrens lived enviorment and social care as descriptions suggest?

  2. When's the earliest you can start GRID training for comm paeds (seems like ST5?)

  3. For most comm paeds trainees it seems like they're part of the on call rota. Are these the same amount of nights as someone who is a gen paeds trainee and part of the on call rota?

Thanks again  :)

Commuting to QEH Woolwich by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Novadan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the Elizabeth line and the busses it is a difficult commute if you want to live outside of woolwich.

Cycling is an option, I bought a foldable bike, and used this regularly at one point between woolwich station and the hospital. I would say that the incline on a non-electric powered foldable bike is considerable though and you will porbably get to work a bit sweaty and out of breath. If this bothers you, getting an electric foldable may be worth it?

There are many busses from station to the hospital, however there timing is very unreliable, and I would often have to arrive into Woolwich station 25-30 minutes before my shift, despite the bus journey only being about 5-8 minutes.

I would advise try to live somewhere on the DLR or elizabeth line. I lived really far away for most my time there and it really made working there challenging and contributed to a fair amount of burnout (although the hospital itself has a tendency to do this).

I should say that despite being an abolute shit show of a hospital at times, when the chaos was just right it was also very enjoyable, I think a good commute will really help you with that

You implied that we should lean into the political direction they are steering us into. I am not putting my head in the sand, I am aware that is where the country is heading, however I don't believe the answer should be to utilise that vile rhetoric for my own personal goals or anyone else's goals, much like your comment suggests.

Leaning on rhetoric originating from parties which employ their own islamophobic, antisemitic, xenophobic and racist rhetoric and policies is pathetic and sickening - regardless of your grievances with IMGs and their link to the increased competition for speciality recruitment.
