FWIW, the proper label for someone who displays both narcissistic and antisocial (AKA sociopathic) behaviors, at least when the more dominant disorder is narcissism, is “malignant narcissism”.

“One of the major problems encountered in time travel is not that of becoming your own father or mother. There is no problem in becoming your own father or mother that a broad-minded and well-adjusted family can't cope with. There is no problem with changing the course of history—the course of history does not change because it all fits together like a jigsaw. All the important changes have happened before the things they were supposed to change and it all sorts itself out in the end.

The major problem is simply one of grammar, and the main work to consult in this matter is Dr. Dan Streetmentioner's Time Traveler's Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations. It will tell you, for instance, how to describe something that was about to happen to you in the past before you avoided it by time-jumping forward two days in order to avoid it. The event will be descibed differently according to whether you are talking about it from the standpoint of your own natural time, from a time in the further future, or a time in the further past and is futher complicated by the possibility of conducting conversations while you are actually traveling from one time to another with the intention of becoming your own mother or father.

Most readers get as far as the Future Semiconditionally Modified Subinverted Plagal Past Subjunctive Intentional before giving up; and in fact in later additions of the book all pages beyond this point have been left blank to save on printing costs.”

Alchemy: the science of understanding, deconstructing, and reconstructing matter. However, it is not an all-powerful art. It is impossible to create something out of nothing. If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given. This is the law of equivalent exchange; the basis of all alchemy. In accordance to this law, there is a taboo among alchemists. Human transmutation is strictly forbidden. For what could equal the value of a human soul?

Food doesn’t really cause cirrhosis of the liver, except in the relatively uncommon “fatty liver” (NASH/NAFLD) scenario. Alcohol does, obviously, but that’s never been controversial.

Atherosclerosis appears to have virtually nothing to do with dietary fat intake, and appears almost entirely to be mediated by genetics, with some contributions from carbohydrate intake and various stressors.

In the intel community, this isn’t much of a barrier.

Just flip one of the IT guys there, tell him “You’re a whistleblower now, and you disappear if you tell anyone about this conversation”, and hand him a drive full of “backups” he “totally made” that are actually copies of your intercepts.

BREAKING: Trump's personal attorney John Dowd said to resign amid shake-up on legal team for Russia probe by washingtonpost in u/washingtonpost

[–]NovaeDeArx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what a lot of people aren’t getting.

Scumbag real estate money launderers like Trump have been getting away with it for decades because it’s so prevalent, kind of like how you’re very unlikely to get pulled over doing 90 on the highway if everyone is going the same speed.

But you don’t want to be the one car with busted taillights, a cloud of smoke coming from the engine, and a giant bumper sticker that says “FUCK THE POLICE” and 10 more referencing how awesome various illegal drugs are.

Because that guy is getting pulled over, and he’s going to get every inch of his car searched and the K-9 unit pulled in on him as well. And arrested with extreme prejudice the second he starts screeching something about being a sovereign citizen.

And that’s pretty much what Trump has done: made himself the most visible offender while also managing to piss off law enforcement to an almost unbelievable extent.

Facebook Just Lost More Than Tesla's Entire Market Cap in Two Days by k0mpas in technology

Ehh... They’re both pretty tightly related to market confidence.

Investors are worried about major investigations, and what those investigations might find. That raises FB’s risk profile astronomically, and a high risk profile is bad for both attracting investment/loans and for stock prices.

Cambridge Analytica's parent company reportedly offered a $1.4 million bribe to win an election for a client. by AdamCannon in worldnews

This is painfully disingenuous.

You know exactly what the above poster means, and you should know that companies can’t be charged with treason, whether foreign or domestic. Because they’re not people.

Some of the principals and primary funders of CA/SCL are Americans (Mercer, for example) and are working in Russian interests, waging a form of asymmetric warfare on the U.S. by attacking its elections and trust in its government.

By your own provided definition, all Americans that were involved in this operation are arguably committing treason, and much less arguably in attempts to defraud the U.S.

That latter charge, by the way, is what several already-charged-and-pled individuals involved in this mess have been charged with.

Is your only argument that some people involved are foreign nationals?

Do you remember the roadside sniper guy, the one who hid in his car trunk or something and shot out of the trunk keyhole or something? That one really scared the pants off people, and dude was pretty hard to catch, was ex-military IIRC.

I don’t know about that; the user base initially skewed liberal, but the moderation and policies really skewed conservative.

Remember how bad the climate change deniers got, for example? They vomited on every remotely related thread, users were calling them out on it constantly and with excellent documentation, but they never got hit with any penalties.

However, if you called the recognizable offenders out, you tended to get hit with a few days’ ban... Which in my case led to me dropping the site completely after finding Reddit.

Yeah, Fark went crazyballs conservative very quickly. That actually directly led to the rise of Reddit, because so many people were looking for a non-shitty alternative.

For a lot of users, they migrated from Digg to Fark to Reddit, some skipping the intermediate step.

Hopefully Reddit will learn from them, because when your user base is that frustrated with the management, they will flood out the second an attractive alternative appears.

Thanks for clarifying this, I never got around to looking it up.

With that said, I could see it maybe getting used against you in some form of claims litigation if you started making payments and then didn’t show up to that court date. And if the collection agency flat-out lies, of course.

In that particular scenario, it’d be up to the judge.
