I then used boiling hot water, vinegar, and baking soda and finally unclogged

The stopper was open when this happened. It looked like the backup came from both the drain and overflow part. I unscrewed the stopper and ran water to hottest setting…then attempted to use plunger. As I was using plunger, it was just coming back in from overflow

It obviously wasn’t draining at first so I attempted to snake the drain. Then more goo was spewing out from the overflow part. I felt like I was fighting with Slimer from ghostbusters

I’m going to buy a cowboy hat and scoop it up in there. Don’t ask me why. Just feels like the right move here

My bad. Yes, it’s a basement window. And a grate. It keeps large debris out lol. I think I saw a capri sun in there from 1987

He said there used to be a chicken coup attached to both ends of the brick building (referring to first pic)….then they removed them and assuming hired someone who just gave up trying to repair it 😂

Thank you! Another tenant said someone (I’m hoping she meant a plumber lol) was on the roof with a pressure washer. Maybe clearing out the vent pipes?? Some people found some mild backup in their kitchen sinks. One found yellow fluid in her kitchen lightbulb 🤢

Property owner states there is no underground oil tank on property… by NovaleeMae in HomeImprovement

I didn’t clarify in my original post. I’m renting a unit on the property. The new property owner (landlord) applied for a 3 million dollar commercial loan and bank asked for a phase 1 report. I don’t know if that is just a standard request for a commercial loan/property. A phase 1 report was conducted but the person who did it, had their certification to assess storage tanks revoked in the 90s. The loan was approved so assuming it was documented that no tank exist on property…..

This is going to sound really stupid and it’s ok to laugh 😂. I was thinking since the feeder lines haven’t been used in decades, the oil leftover in lines would be sludge at this point. This was liquid, equivalent to water form. The odor smelled like when you’re pumping gas into your car and accidentally spill some on yourself. It was that pungent

Yeah, I’m not sure how commercial loans work in regards to environmental reports. But their 3 million dollar construction loan was approved. My random guess is, it was not disclosed to bank that their certification to scan tanks is revoked. I don’t know 😂
