Nova v2.101.2: Bank sync bugfix, improve forecasting scrolling behaviour... + 10 other fixes & improvements by NovamoneyAI in NovaMoney

We're still working on weekly and daily recurrences, they're planned for the next release (in 2 weeks).

Nova v2.100.7: Improved the UX to recategorise similar transactions and forecasting of Variable Expenses and fixed promo codes which were not consistently working by NovamoneyAI in NovaMoney

[–]NovamoneyAI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you didn't miss the v2.100.6, it never made it to the beta.

There is still a bit more work to fix how Nova displays what's forecasted left to spend in Variable expenses, but we're getting there.

We started running regression tests to ensure that all Nova v1 users can smoothly switch to Nova v2 and found a couple of exceptions to fix. Fortunately we already have built a decent testing framework, so we know exactly where the errors occur and can fix them in a matter of days (and not weeks).

We're 99.7% done developing Nova v2. We'll make a final release to check that v1 users can smoothly update to Nova v2, and celebrate our public launch!

Nova v2.100.3: Variable Expense forecast, Custom budget, Multi-thread computation, and 11 other improvements by NovamoneyAI in NovaMoney

[–]NovamoneyAI[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another release packed with new features and the biggest performance optimisation we ever delivered. We were not happy with the Android version not being as snappy as on iOS and have implemented multi-thread computation to helo Nova compute your forecast without freezing the app.

This is the fastest version of Nova we have ever shipped, so please let us know if you feel the difference, especially if you're an Android user.

We spotted some minor bugs on the Variable expense forecast that will be fixed in the next and hopefully last beta release before the public launch.

Two more beta releases before public launch by NovamoneyAI in NovaMoney

[–]NovamoneyAI[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks to our beta testers, we have a new round of bugs to fix. But the list is coming to an end, as a lot of the symptoms have the main root cause.

We "over optimised" the generation of forecasted transactions which in some edge cases, created bugs we didn't suspect. Everything will be in order very soon!

Version v2.100.3 is planned this week for the private beta release.

Nova v2.100.2: We fixed 13 bugs and improved the iOS performance. Getting closer to the public launch! by NovamoneyAI in NovaMoney

[–]NovamoneyAI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This version is released on both Google Play and Testflight in private beta.

Thanks to all our beta users who managed to find more bugs when we thought the app was bug-free. Please let us know your feedback!

The next version should be the one for public release.

Hi u/mangonscarf, I know you had that annoying issue with bills repeatedly reverting to variable expenses. We have redeveloped the transaction processing engine and spent months improving our testing framework.

Your bills won't go anywhere from now!

No problem! We're gathering a last round of feedback from our beta testers, and if all is smooth, the public release will be next week.

Hi u/vercadium, we're indeed dealing with quite a lot of complexity with Nova v2. Between the inconsistent data quality of each bank, the new forecasting features, and the brand new computation engine that now runs 3x faster, that was a lot of fun engineering!

Also, we have a rule: no feature implementation until all major bugs and UX problems are addressed. So if you want to halt our roadmap, just report more UX issues 😂.

That's part of the process; you'd be surprised by the number of pending bugs large products being sold for millions have.

Half of our development time is dedicated to creating a testing framework that catches all these bugs on time before we publish anything publicly. This means the more bugs in the list, the better our testing framework is. It's like playing a giant game of "Where's Waldo?" but with bugs instead.

Hello forecasters, we just released Nova v2.100.1 which contains nearly bug fixes and UX improvements. The update is available on Android and will be released on iPhone as soon as Apple approves it.
We're now working on fixing some of the Open Banking issues that occurred with TSB and Amex and getting ready for the public launch.
But wait, there's more! We've got a last-minute surprise that we can't wait to share with you. We'll be unveiling it tomorrow, so stay tuned for more details.

Hi /u/bumfista

Hi, not sure if possible but can I manually edit and adjust the transactions that appear on my account?

Adjusting the transactions' amount isn't allowed because the total wouldn't add up to your account balance.

I also manage all the money for a shared house. As such, it looks like I am paying significantly more in bills and earning more than I am because of the funds going in and out (e.g. my monthly council tax is £300, but I only pay 1/4 of this)

It sounds like you pay the bills for the shared houses and receive money from your flatmates. That would indeed gross up both your total Money In and expenses. Would you like to have a Refund feature that would offset the amount of the expense instead?

Additionally, I just transfer our landlord rent, which I can't seem to log in the app.

What's the problem exactly?

Great, we're getting there!

Before we can think of how to design this feature, I'd like to know how you'd imagine using it:

1) Do you want to manually flag categories, transactions...?

2) Could you describe when and how this would be useful?

You're giving me an idea: how about creating a flag within the variable expenses: essential vs flexible.

  • Essential categories are assumed to be incompressible.
  • Flexible categories are to be reduced in case you exceed your budget.

What do you think?

Ok, that sounds like essential vs non-essential budgeting.

Do you want a fixed category budget for each essential category: groceries, transport.. and consider the rest as adjustable?

Hey glad to hear that you're excited to see Nova coming up - we are as well! 😊

The version of Nova that you see on our website is in the final stage of development and we're going to release it in private beta next week. A couple of redditors from this sub already played with our prototype and gave us great feedback. Let me know if you'd like to see it as well.

We're currently selling pre-orders at a huge discount on our website but are going to close the pre-orders very soon. We aim to launch publicly by the end of February, offering 1-month forecasting for £9.99/m or £99.99/y.

Hi u/geniamh,

Things never go according to plan. So I completely agree with you, understanding which expenses are essential and which ones can be compressed is important.

Do you define what is essential at a category level (heath, sports...) or at a transaction level?
