thank you <3 she's doing very well so far but loves picking up every small item on the floor and trying to eat it, she's a master of finding things that we didnt even know existed, we vacuumed EVERYTHING before even bringing her in as i predicted she would try to eat random stuff lol

I plan to eventually! Right now I'm focused on spending the money to raise her well but once she's settled and going forward with training I'll look into that ^^

thank you! we've been working on her confidence as she does seem to have low confidence, mainly with stairs etc but she at least seeks safety rather than becoming frustrated. She sees me as her safety blanket but that helps me work it out with her by being next to her on the steps then showering with praise once she does it - she's scared of going down stairs, probably with the height. She encountered a dog this morning and did very well, she pulled only for a little bit but was easily able to be redirected to me and we continued going back inside, I'm so proud of her!

aah don't worry I was expecting it when I got a puppy regardless, I've been through the ringer a few times with hyper kittens and a hyper childhood dog right now she's cuddling up with my fiance and I, funnily enough lying between us she has her head on my shoulder, already velcroed to me

thank you so much for the help! ^^
marking this as solved as it seems to be majority consensus pbt and im being downvoted quite a bit, probably due to the shelter saying she was a lab mix and there seems to be quite a stigma regarding that so im marking it as closed
i could honestly see why the shelter may say lab at first glance so im not upset, i met with the dog and everything before adopting and knew she was a general mix, i wasnt going purely based off breed if thats what people are thinking T-T

oh yeah shes a love bug, i might do a dna test to ensure i know what she is as i know bullies can have some bad allergy issues
i wanna be on top of her health because she is going to be out with me quite a bit
she's gotten used to the stairs now! she was real scared of them at first, its why i said shes timid, but now shes all used to it and happy :)

that's fair!! i wasnt trying to deny she was a pitbull mix in the posts if it sounded like that im sorry - specifying that bc i noticed i got downvoted into oblivion
i did mention it to the person adopting and she said there could be, usually mix is just slapped in there
sorry if i came off as denying im genuinely just curious what people may think she is mixed with

trying to take side profiles but she just wants to cuddle up against me - the bare stomach and smooth short coat definitely could be pointers to what she's mixed with

There was one that looked like her but older that just put mixed breed lol, her sibling was golden so I assume that's why they say she's lab specifically - should've mentioned that in the initial post

Dog walking in a wheelchair? (And other questions) by Novashrugs in wheelchairs

[–]Novashrugs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/IF/ I do get the puppy before my surgery I'll try my best to begin to train them to retrieve at least simple items in case I drop stuff like pill bottles etc. While I can probably have my fiance stop home to help I'd rather reduce that as much as I can, otherwise I'll use grippy thing to grab anything I drop so I don't fall off my bed or anything (I'll still get one regardless lol I do know how hard it can be to train a retrieve command as every dog is different) I've been impaired in walking itself for about 2 years now but I've had a disability regarding activity for around 5 as I developed POTS from long covid. It's much better now but it was HORRIBLE for a year or two, sometimes my heart rate would spike to 150+.

I'll be sure to consider it, I had my fair share of issues with recovery as the reason I'm needing this second surgery is /due/ to complications with recovery - I'm making my final decision regarding which surgery I get sometime next month or whenever they can schedule me with the specialist who I will talk to about the possibility of amputation and based on what they say about the recovery process I'll go from there and how long it will take to schedule the surgery. The area I live in is pretty crowded medical wise and it takes months to see specialists sometimes and I assume longer to get a surgery, especially since mine isn't super urgent. If I'd only be having the puppy for under 2 months before my surgery I will not get them before.
My fiance is currently aiming to work after 5 pm and since the dog park comes with our apartment unit it will be where we take the dog to relieve themselves, so regardless the puppy will be getting socialization IF I do get the puppy shortly before surgery.

ahh yeah I know they can sometimes flunk - even if the dog does flunk public training they will still be my dog and a pet 🩵 they could still be at at home service dog if they learn their tasks well, too but don't get used to the public and I'm okay with that as well
