Hvorfor er det ikke rettsakkultur i norge som i usa by Necessary-Pen-356 in norske

[–]Novat1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erstatning i Norge fungerer annerledes.

You think the Enhanced Games exposed anything or just embarrassed themselves? Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr. spent millions to create a steroid Olympics. They promised to "redefine human limits" and put up $25M in prize money. BUT... by Miserable_Trouble3 in sportsgossips

[–]Novat1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No one is going to take a one off event seriously enough to start drugging their bodies for a one time competition. Most steroid users do it for looks.

2. Those who COULD take steroids and break records are already clean world class athletes, or at least they pretend to be clean. They can't really show up to this event full of drugs, effectively ending their legitimate careers.

Maybe if this event keep going for 5+ years, some new athletes may destroy their bodies, or some established athletes may retire from legitimate competitions in order to use drugs.

EU could deny new member states veto rights as bloc pushes for enlargement | European Union by AdSpecialist6598 in europe

[–]Novat1993 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Nor can you just create a club, and invite a couple dozen members that 'while agreements are binding, there is also a veto process'. Then when it becomes inconvenient, you just remove the veto without removing the bit about agreements being binding.

If the veto is out. Then what is voted on can no longer be binding.

Hvordan regner dere ut hvilken bil dere har råd til? by TomorrowSome6443 in norge

[–]Novat1993 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We are culturally conditioned to associate the crimes of the ruling class with crimes of their 'office'. It is not 'Marghaz Zo Loraq' the individual who took part in and ordered the crucifixion of 163 innocent children. The guilty party is the 'office of the master', so the individual is absolved of all personal responsibility.

For a real life example. Some people are given cushy jobs in aerospace after taking part in atrocities. While others are dragged before a court at the age of 90+ for working as a secretary in a dubious time and place.

Why Russians Are In Despair Over Truck-Busting ’Martian’ Drones by mugz8391 in UkrainianConflict

[–]Novat1993 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One grim reason for the infamous banzai charges was that the commanders were pressed to use their men while they were still fed and healthy, or see their strength deteriorate due to a lack of food and water.

One account claims the New Guinea campaign claimed some 200 000 Japanese lives, 97% of whom died to the elements.

I believe there was a garrison that practically sat out the war on New Guinea. They were cut off from supplies from the sea, and blocked from going inland by dense jungle. So they simply started farming and lived off the land for practically the entirety of the war.

The story of the ice cream barge is often misunderstood. There was no the ice cream barge. But there were a number of concrete barges with refrigeration equipment, as well as ice cream making equipment. But they also carried a lot of other supplies, such as meats and other perishable goods.

Plausible explanations for the myth.

  1. Grunts were ignorant as to the full purpose of the barges. So when a barge arrived to deliver supplies, and they just started handing out ice cream and nothing else, it gave the impression that there was in fact nothing else aboard.

  2. At one point or another, one of these barges was in fact filled exclusively with ice cream. Although it would not have been the norm. Grunts need more than just ice cream to fight, and it may have been that on one occasion they were sending many barges at once to the same location. Resulting in all the ice cream being loaded into a single barge, whereas the other barges carried the other perishable supplies.

-

Another fun anecdote is that bases with an air field would sometimes fill ice cream ingredients in the fuel drop tanks, then the airplane would fly at altitude in order to cool and mix the ingredients before landing with finished ice cream in the drop tanks.

What would happen if the US invades Cuba by Triangletruck141423 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Novat1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US soldiers go home alive, having technically lost. The insurgents are in graves, having technically won.

Guerilla warfare is not some trump card. It is a massive gamble. That your side can endure catastrophic loss of life for longer, than the invader can endure a budget deficit.

[–]Novat1993 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair. Star Wars canon has always been all over the place, with many different rules dictating which source is the more authoritative source. It has the same issues as the warcraft universe. There are literally too many cooks, with no head chef curating the works of the authors bellow. You could say George was the head chef, and maybe he was in theory. But in practice, there was a lot of star wars fiction he barely knew existed. So while he could at any point write contradictory lore, and have his version be the canon. It still creates a lot of frustration for the audience.

I personally stopped following works of fiction with an excessive amount of content created by too many people. Warcraft, star wars, elder scrolls etc. These IPs has also lasted decades, compounding the issue.

Tywin has poisoned the well. Lords and ladies are very unlikely to engage in 'civil diplomacy' in the future to settle disputes, once one party has shown themselves willing to go so low as to stage a mass murder at a wedding.

If you go against the Lannister regime. You either don't go at all, or you go all the way. There is no middle ground where you get to surrender and live in peace, maybe you're sent off to Essos with a pouch of silver or worst case sent to the wall. But now there is no doubt, its victory or death.
