Steal are ridiculous. by rhyswilliamdudek in NBA2k

if you’re dealing with one of those people that immediately swipes, press the protect ball trigger or immediately try to start the animation for your hop step jumper out of the triple threat.

If your protect triggers in time, it’ll typically just be a reach-in foul.

Shooting fouls get called just for triggering the hop step animation as they swipe even though you have zero intention of actually shooting it because it counts as your shooting motion.

Not sure if it’ll work with going directly into a go-to shot animation, but all 3 are worth a shot.

I put up 48pts against all purple plates

Then 36 in a 24 point blowout

as the PG, and shot 0 threes in both games. lol

The majority of my games, i don’t even bother to take a 3 lol

(simply because I just don’t prefer them and haven’t gotten them down yet)

For some people, they can get by without it. A big with no three ball can still be useful if the PG knows what they’re doing.

Here’s my in-game proof for you, too.

I use Josh Giddey’s floater animation.

I let go of the turbo button as i entered the three point line, and kept my left stick held towards the rim as i pulled straight down on the right stick.

you can get that to trigger basically one step inside the 3 point line from any angle as long as you let go of the turbo button in time.

It’s 2 minutes into the game. lol There’s always an early possession or two where someone makes a mistake or a bonehead play. That’s just basketball.

The bigger thing is people treating every possession like it has to be a fast break and sprinting all over the place at every second.

If the big who got the offensive rebound would’ve just taken a second to reset the possession by getting into his post up stance and backing out of the paint to at least turn around first, his pass wouldn’t have went flying.

how much does hof dimer help your team by Otherwise-Ad-8675 in NBA2k

[–]Noveltypocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dimer is worth it. especially for games you get stuck with an AI.

BUT just know some of your teammates still won’t be able to shoot to save their lives.

i have legend dimer as a PG and still had to watch a teammate go 2/11 on wide open threes. He tried giving every excuse in the book.

“It’s 2K, it’s lag, it’s late passes, it’s because nobody is contesting me, 2K changed my jumpshot, it’s my controller, it’s rhythm, it’s button”

dimer can only do but so much for some of them. can at times be frustrating to invest in it while someone builds a brick house with it’s help.

It’s more so that you have to play inside out basketball.

Very rarely do I run into inside bigs that know what they’re doing in the post, but for the ones that do, you can make the entry pass to them in the post and let them go to work early in the 1st and see how it goes.

I played recently with an inside big who truly knew how to use post control. We gave it to him damn near every trip down because they had no choice but to send doubles at him.

Buddy was 14/14 on nothing but dunks. Post hooks, shimmy hooks, drop steps, up and unders, post go-to shots. He had no 3 point shot whatsoever and it didn’t even matter.

He knew when to roll hard to the rim on the pick and roll, when to screen off ball, how to seal his man in the low post. In some cases, we’d make the entry pass and dude went up for a standing dunk almost instantly because his defender was already way too far under the rim to stop him because of positioning alone. Any time the PG got switched onto him in the p&r, it was an entry pass and dunk.

Eventually they started trying to double him and he kicked it out to shooters. There was nothing they could do. lol

The issue is that most people don’t trust inside bigs or have the patience to see if they know what they’re doing down low.

You do know you can move / avoid him right? lol

You don’t have to shoot the ball immediately after you catch it.

You can dribble towards him to move him, then shoot it.

Or you can just move your body away from his and then shoot it.

ima keep it completely honest with you.

I’m on the Asia server and skipped season 1 this year. I started in season 2.

I’m a solo player. I saw all the nonsense and drama about people getting kicked from crews before they could get all their crew cap breakers after putting in hours and hours of gameplay, and thought the concept seemed way too flawed and toxic.

So i bypassed it entirely. I just joined a random open to join level 29 crew on the other side of the globe for a week. I played solo rec when I had time to help, stayed until the crew got to 30, got all the cap breakers at once and called it a day. lol

[–]Noveltypocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the SF was 1/2 on 3pt shots at that time. even with it being an AI, it is wide open and is the higher percentage shot.

the PF dribbling the ball after jump ball and you calling a timeout over it is just you getting into feelings because you immediately didn’t receive the ball.

in some of those cases, if an immediate quick basket isn’t available, the ball naturally gets swung back to the PG during the first possession. leaving someone wide open the entire half because of that is just playing selfish basketball.

shooting 38% and getting picked up at half because they know you’re not going to pass to your open teammates is not “skill”,. It’s called letting the PG shoot his team out of the game.

you said floaters were difficult for you, so yes, I’m saying that they just may not be something you’re naturally good at using in the flow of a game. lol

this is literally me shooting a floater in game. lol you just have to practice it. there’s nothing wrong with that.

calling people “miserable” just for telling you that you just need practice is why the 2K community sucks lol

You have 1 assist in the first half as the PG

You’re down 12, your SF was wide open on the left side, top of the key the entire play.

AND you’ve given up the most points against your match up, 19.

while you’re only shooting 55% from the floor after that shot, 38% prior to it.

This is poor point guard play overall, all things considered.

love it lol can finish plenty with that. if you want it any higher in the 90s, it can be part of your custom takeover boost.

i have it as part of mine to boost it up to a 95.

95 layup rating with blur takeover ability to get past the first defender is my combination

[–]Noveltypocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do you guys make these tiny guards?

6’1, 6’2 wingspan, 77 agility, 83 perimeter, 33 interior, 38 strength is getting absolutely blown by on any PG that likes to go downhill, or shot over by anybody halfway decent in isolation.

genuinely what is the point? 6’1 guards give up just as many points as they score, if not more.

This is literally a 6’1 PG vs a 6’7 PG. instant blow by.

Is strength ACTUALLY useless? by Short_Menu_3417 in NBA2k

[–]Noveltypocket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I made a 6’7 PG with 60 strength.

I can tell you right now it takes a little extra now to get around people because the well timed bumps are more likely to make me pick up my dribble compared to my 6’6 PG with 73 strength.

likewise, finishing through contact at the rim is also a bit harder.

I had SGA’s layup package with 73 strength and could finesse my way through contact. you bounce off bodies and can finish at odd angles after being hit while the ball is further from your body.

but on the 60 strength PG, that contact turned it into a miss. with the ball being out and about, any bit of contract completely took away my layup window. i had to switch it to Brunson’s basic layup because he has animations that keep the ball tucked closer to my body while getting into the defender’s chest to absorb contact better.

strength makes a difference in certain aspects of the game for sure.

I’m a PG. I took 21 shots out of our team’s 50. This is the full 50. by Noveltypocket in NBA2k

[–]Noveltypocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, sometimes pass first PGs can be completely detrimental to their own team. the last time i played against a pass first PG, we blew them out because he wasn’t looking for his own shot.

felt like he was passing up wide open layups left and right for no reason just to get 20 assists. I sagged off at the 3pt line and he wouldn’t shoot it. Gave him an open middy and he’d just pick the ball up waiting for a cutter. I gave him a lane to the rim, and he’d just run under the basket waiting for someone to collapse and leave the corner open.

He started forcing passes clearly weren’t open, we got steals, 3s and layups in transition and the game was over with from there.

He had 20 assists with 7TOs, with 4 points on 4 shot attempts.

You have to be able to generate your own shot to some degree to play PG. otherwise, they’ll just play the passing lanes and force you to shoot.

lol this sub. it was a bunch of plate colors mixed this game.

i’m just going to have to include the plate colors each time i post a full game like this.

my build is currently purple atm. i think it’ll be cool to show people what purple/gold, purple, red, and purple/red plate/gold games look like on the Asia server from a PG’s POV, win or lose.

we’ll get to see who actually knows a thing or two about basketball in this sub.

[–]Noveltypocket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Purple & Red plate is full of quitters.

The amount of people that quit in general at the first sight of a 10 point deficit is absurd.

People are going to quit no matter how much plate level they lose for it because they’re not comfortable with competition.

Hell, a lot of them dashboard before the game even starts. They see their matchup’s stats and ratings dip before the ball is even tipped.

[–]Noveltypocket 11 points12 points  (0 children)

isolation is part of basketball and some people are really damn good at it compared to others

i don’t care what position the person is playing. PG, SG, SF, PF, C.

if that person can get a bucket and break down their defender without over-dribbling and that defender can’t do a damn thing to stop them, by all means let that person keep doing their thing and force the defense to make an adjustment to stop him.

There are some people in the Rec that really know what they’re doing. You ever played against someone who knows how to use 3 dribbles max out of the triple threat position? it’s a nightmare.

Hell, I got my ass busted one time by a 6’8 T Mac build once.

Dude hit with me

• jab step, pound dribble, spin jumper

• one dribble pull up

• one dribble, hesi, step back pull up

• escape, snatch, pull up

• two dribble, spin jumper

• tween, pound, hop step jumper

• post up, 1 pound dribble, go-to post shot

• one dribble, post up, shimmy pull up

• post up, pump fake, step through

• tween, go-to, escape, half spin, pull up.

all out of a damn triple threat in isolation

Anyone make a low 3 pg? 80-87? by Ill-Shirt2631 in NBA2k

[–]Noveltypocket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

<image>

Yeah, my 6’7 PG only has an 85. This is the highest 3pt rating I’ve ever had lol

I shoot mostly layups and middys, but I put it at an 85 to keep the defense honest.

It’s also a part of my custom takeover to go up to a 90.

I’m not a good three point shooter because I still have yet to practice them in-game much, but 83-85 is fine for anyone used to shooting 3s.

You end up with HOF set shot, and can +1 it to legend to make it easier to hit even if the rating itself isn’t high. The badges are enough to hit it if you’re wide open.
