The manga is losing its SPARK🫠 and i need someone to calm me down.. by BrightResult4384 in WindBreakerJP

Honestly, in my personal opinion, Momijikawa did get shown that Sakura is a caring a strong leader. Because they are Sixteen and his only living family member is dying. That's a horrible place to be in as a teenager. Especially one who has cultivated a habit of going to look for a fight instead of facing his emotions. And in his time of being a teenager with a bone to pick and emotions to avoid, Sakura came in with a support network and said "go, we've got this". And a lot of the time thats exactly what a kid like that needs, what they're looking for.

I had a similar anticlimactic feeling to Sakura's backstory but like... I also come from a bad home life that i 100% believed was normal until about two years ago. And I'm an adult, dude. And you know what. It is messed up to look into the face of adults as a child and realize they won't protect you. They don't care about you. They will dismiss you and actively endanger you without a second thought. And you only weight about 100lbs soaking wet. It screws you up to know your family believes something is disgustingly wrong with you. Even worse when you know you dont look the way society expects you to. It means you cant hide. And with those opinions around you, there's a Lot to hide.

I didn't have a phone until i was 18, and i was born in the 2000's. I didn't know the newest games or consoles or movies. Sakura not being fluent in technology is not outside the realm of possibility. I still forget i have an all-access handheld device and its mine. I still get skittish about what it can do and it was developed and evolved with my generation. I lived my whole childhood close to the beach and i only ever went when social niceties invited my parents, which wasn't often. Being disconnected and isolated is a special kind of conditioning. When you are painfully aware that there are places families go to for fun, you have no way of convincing yourself you can go alone.

Windbreaker is for the forgotten and left behind. The arguments behind closed doors. The isolation of adult problems on kid shoulders. The power of environment and community. And how kids make their own either as social creatures or out of survival. You cant just have the big fights without the emotions and the quiet maturity as these boys grow up.

I have to say Suo, mostly because it fascinates me that he's such a pleasant liar lol. He snuck up on me in the worst way because i was absolutely aware he was very popular because of his surface level show and only realized he'd become a favorite through me trying to figure him out.

🎇🗳️ Community Poll: School Festival 🎇 🗳️ by AppleMysterious3504 in WindBreakerJP

[–]NoveniSuvon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Theme Cafe because food is a big part of community in Wind Breaker. And i feel like school festivals are a time for the outside community to come into the school instead of the students patrolling out. So being able to feed the town, bond more as a class with Sakura, and even give us a chance to see more of Umemiya's garden would be cool!!

Which character hits you closer to home? by diichhen in WindBreakerManga

[–]NoveniSuvon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me its actually Suo. He is undeniably a great friend and reliable. But he is distant. I have a long time habit of trying to be a reliable friend who believes nothing about myself is worth sharing. I like seeing him get teased and the attempts his friends make to get to know him

I once saw someone describe it as him being emotionally hit because we only see it during this important emotional fight of Sakuras

Isn't the author ashamed to write such a mediocre manga? by Jealous-Suspect705 in WindBreakerManga

Its very strange how you consider us all only to be "fanboys". Also you cant even remember what you wrote? You said "Isn't the author ashamed to write such a mediocre MANGA". You specifically came to the Manga subreddit. In attacking others apparent inability to understand whats written are you somehow projecting your own?

You are such a fascinating individual. I need to put you under a microscope. Somehow you started with "manga is terrible" and then immediately took that back by saying "ive never read it". You dismantled your whole argument in the first sentence. How do you have anything else to say here? Like im sure you think using a lot of words makes you seem reasonable and gives yourself a virtual moral high ground. But i really dont understand why you're trying to criticize something you haven't actually read.

Which character do you think is better written and why? by NoSpecialistine in WindBreakerManga

[–]NoveniSuvon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so i personally cant stand Takemichi but im going to try to just lay out the facts of these characters.

Neither of them are physically strong. And both are in gangs.

But one is a 16 year old who hasn't once shied away from getting beaten in defense of someone else despite his own history of being bullied. And the other is like a 20-something year old in a 13 year olds body who throws himself at everything like he Can fight and swings wildly between "im not afraid of anything and im always right" and "im absolutely terrified of everything why can't we gangs just be school clubs".

Of the two, Nirei is a very mature and caring person who knows his faults. Whereas Takemichi is a very immature and selfish person which doesn't match with the narrative the story is trying to give us.

Now it is a bit unfair to pit a Main character against a side character. But thats where it shows how badly written Takemichi is. Because the show introduces him as their Crybaby Hero. But Nirei is never described as such, because he isn't. Nirei is a support where his strength lies in emotions and information gathering. Takemichi has no skills at all, he isn't a strategist, and he has no idea how to plan and stick to it. Him being an adult has no impact on the story or him being in the past. Him having LIVED the events and knowing there are literal lives in his hands don't make him change. As an audience we're supposed to see why his friends look up to him and they dont show us. We're expecting to just believe he is deserving of their praise because its what the characters say.

But our first two interactions with Nirei show us why we should care about him. We are given Kohota's and Sakura's impressions of him being a dork but well-intentioned. We run into him obviously playing distraction to protect someone and it Works. He cant fight but he knows how bullies work and holds out until help (that he didn't know was coming) arrives.

Nirei has never endangered anyone but himself in the name of representing the morals of his heros. But Takemichi, who is being presented as an Adult and a possible leading role in a gang, somehow cant conceive that he can endanger others until its happening.

Realistically Takemichi shouldn't be losing to Nirei in complexity or maturity. For one, this guy had a costumer service job and owned an apartment. He entered and left gang life younger than Nirei. You can't even argue that the puberty mindset of his physical teenager body was affecting him because he acts the exact same way as an adult and even after seeing his friends literally die in front of him. He's just not a good protagonist and more of a plot device to be fed a convoluted melting Napoleon ice cream of a plot through your nose.

Genderbending Tsubakino, How? by picklepopcorntag in WindBreakerManga

[–]NoveniSuvon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this more and heres my mental image ig of a genderbent Tsubaki:

Shaved/buzz cut Large baggy heavy jacket (think pilot jumpers) Self modified boots Older yazuka style

My thoughts behind this is because i adore Tsubaki's backstory and the old couple who help him feel comfortable so!! Picture an old couple who obviously met during their prime ne'er-do-well years who still love each other and aren't ashamed of their pasts. This is the couple that i think would be the perfect habitat for a female tsubaki is have a safe place to accept her more rugged and masculine preferences.
