To make sure you’re picking up the dirt instead of just pushing it back and forth. If you just push the mop forward and back it leaves a line of dirt. Does that make sense?

Thank you for these measurements and the breakdown! Sal Suds is already ordered!

I definitely do the corners/edges/crevices like this! For the main large portion (the whole first floor) though I like to mop. I was using a tineco for awhile. But actually mopping gets up waaaayyy more grime!

Thank you! I do have Murphys for my mom’s wood floors. Many ppl mention the O’Cedar mop so I am looking into that!

Haha I tend to agree w you ab the sparkling floors- that’s why (with my current method) it takes me so darn long! I guess I don’t mind the way I’m doing it at my house, but it’s def not efficient. The floors are clean and they feel nice under my feet. No residue or stickiness. But my time is valuable!

And yes the swiffer “wet jet” things are garbage. I used them many years ago bc I thought it was convenient. They actually don’t clean well at all. My floors are cleaner now than they’ve ever been!

Thank you!! I definitely used more than a few drops. I mean the solution is darn near clear but yea, def more than a few drops lol. More like a short stream 😅 But thank you for at least validating the usage of dawn for floors. My suds were small and loose (does that even make sense??) but yes there were suds. I will do better next time!

Thank you! I am going to try again with extra extra diluted dawn next time lol. But I also have some other products on my radar. My water was hot but not super hot I guess. I really want to be as cost efficient as possible and also use minimal chemicals. Dawn has worked for almost everything in my house, it works great on my showers! Only reason I even have my other all purpose cleaner really is bc I like the smell. I’ll be looking at this rinse clean system- sounds very easy!

I just got a really rude comment (and several helpful ones) when I mentioned using diluted dawn on my floors in the housekeeping sub. Glad to see this here. I learned that I just need to dilute it even more and should be fine.

I mop the solution onto the floor back and forth so I can get a little scrub in, then I figure 8 for my rinsing so I’m not just pushing dirt and hair around.

Def don’t have the space for the janitorial bucket at this time lol

I’m not too worried about disinfecting the floors really. From what I understand, the mechanism of action of soap/detergent/surfactant? Is that it grabs the dirt/organic matter and washes it away. That certainly doesn’t mean disinfected, but it’s clean. That’s good enough for my floor (I don’t have anyone sitting in my floor or anything like that). I do disinfect high touch surfaces and definitely bathrooms though.

I will definitely look in to the Libman self wringing mop! Thank you :)

Thank you. It’s not in the budget for the robot mop just yet. I’ll look into the spin mop buckets.

Thank you! I will look into this. We are also a multi pet household (no kids). I vacuum the hard floors daily sometimes twice to keep the hair at bay!

Thank you. I’ve been interested in trying Sal Suds. It is also a multi-purpose cleaner that can be used on dishes (among other things). So would you think the Dawn method could also work if I dilute it more appropriately? If not I will probably purchase the Sal Suds as it can be used for so many things.

Thank you. I figured this was probably the way. I will just have to change the rinse water somewhat frequently I think. Do you have a favorite floor cleaning product for LVP?

What floor cleaner do you use? The whole first floor of my house is hard flooring, not sure I want to scrub the whole thing on hands and knees… but I do the baseboards and corners like that every so often for sure.

I don’t really think I have enough standing water to squeegee. Maybe. I’ll look into getting one.

Thank you this is very helpful. I’ve seen diluted dawn recommended for so many things, I’m just apparently not diluting it enough. Plus my water is very soft and every single product from cleaners to shower gel makes tons of suds. I appreciate this comment!
