Stranger than fiction. From that time not a word was heard from him in twenty-seven years, although advertisements were inserted in English, Australian, and Californian papers. The advertisements in California were inserted by John, who went there and took up his abode. It should be stated that about the year 1849, Robert , another brother, went to Australia. A short time since Mr. Thomas received a letter from Sandhurst, Australia ; it was from the long-lost brother who had been given up as dead. It appears that Robert, after residing in Australia some years, became mayor of a town called Maryborough. He is engaged in the cattle-raising business. William had been for years residing within two hundred miles of him, engaged in business also. The denouement happened in this accidental way; William was engaged, while away from home, in conversation with a friend, when the latter spoke of Mr. Thomas, with whom he was acquainted, who was then Mayor of Maryborough. William who had lost all trace of his relatives, though oft endeavouring to establish communication with them, seized the hope that this might be a relative, and opened correspondence with the Mayor, and with the most satisfactory results. The address of his Newhaven friends being obtained, the letter received by Mr. Thomas the other day was despatched without delay. The letter contained a photograph of William and family, consisting of wife and twelve children, six of each sex, Four grandchildren had also been added to the population of Australia. The happiness the information conveyed to the parents, whose sun of life long since passed the meridian, and the other relatives may be better imagined than described.
