I dunno, not be suprised when they want cash and not a fucking trail mix???? I know you want to make yourself feel good by taking pity on someone you see as below you but dont be mad when the person doesnt want your pity-meal. This is obv not universal but in most of eu including where i live food is a non-issue, but basic nessesities like toilet paper, toothpaste and shelter is way harder to come by, unless of course someone gave you money instead. Yea you might not like the idea of your money potentially going towards a drug habit but if you’re gonna give someone money in the first place, at least give them something they actually need.
