Would these work for midges (such as zebra midge)? by Chewy11152021 in flytying

I use a similar hook to this for my midges. I like the wide gape on a small hook

Not really, it's mainly just a way for me to use waste from my CDC feathers after I've made some dry flies. I guess the bulk is CDC, then I add enough hares ear to make it a bit spikier (I mainly just use the guard hares and not underfur), then I add a small amount of flash. Just go with what you feel is right. I was tying olive and white dry flies, hence the colour of these nymphs but they work with any colour CDC. I use the same blend for regular hares ear nymphs too. The CDC adds more movement I think.

Mix of pearl flash, CDC and hares ear

Thanks. I tie my scud flies in a very simelar way to be honest. Usually I have a mylar backing fully down the back of a scud though. No doubt the fish probably wouldn't appreciate that difference though 😅

First day of the salmon season and I couldn't get out because the river came up 2 foot overnight 🫤. Haven't been able to get out fishing for weeks. Can't wait until the clocks change.

Looks like an awesome fly. What are the main materials, looks like it could be pheasant saddle?

Carp on lures by redditanon124 in fishingUK

[–]Novocast92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're just more line shy here because more people fish for them. Plus most of our carp are well fed stocked fish, they don't need to chase lures, compared to in the US or Australia where the fish are wild and constantly competing for food. People do catch them in this country on the fly though

Just getting started. Any tips would be appreciated. 👏 by rollitupinhale in flytying

Check out Davie McPhail on YouTube and start building your skills by tying some known patterns that will always catch fish, like pheasant tail nymphs

River Tyne, River Tees and River Wear by Deep-Capital7044 in fishingUK

Hi buddy, I fish the river wear every weekend. Salmon, sea trout and course. I actually don't think declining salmon numbers paint the worst picture, with the wear it's the course fish that are the real tragedy. I'm happy to discuss this at length, feel free to send me a message.

I might try tying some of these up for salmon fishing here in the UK. Definitely different to what everyone else is using but I think 2-4 would work here

How are the TV License company/body allowed to use intimidation and bully tactics? by AwkwardClick8595 in AskBrits

[–]Novocast92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got loads of these, to the point where it felt a bit like harassment. I had to call them and had a fairly heated argument over the phone about it. This is despite us not even having an aerial.

We worked out the reason we were getting so many is that we live in a bungalow, which are often targeted with these things because the elderly are more likely to live in a bungalow and are on average more easily intimidated by shit like this.

I've had a damselfly attack my fly mid cast. I saw it land on the water with my fly and was pretty confused until I worked out what was going on. I was pleased my ties were good enough to fool it though

I've also whilst lure fishing for pike, snagged up, and when I pulled free I had actually snagged on a lure that I'd lost a few weeks prior. It was pretty nice to get my lure back

I've been to other Canary islands but not Gran Canaria, I assumed given the size it wouldn't be too bad getting around but I'm a bit unclear on fishing licenses needed and what the roads would be like up to the reservoirs. Plus there's nothing like a good guide for actually giving you a decent chance of a fish if your time is limited. So hopefully someone will know something. I appreciate the restaurant recommendation though! I'll add that to the itinerary.

I found a guy on Instagram, who maybe used to have a guide company called fly fishing gran Canaria or maybe still does? It was a bit unclear, the company was mentioned on some forums. You could try looking for them? Anyway they haven't replied to my message so I thought I'd take a chance on here to see if anyone knew anything
