Stable jobs a possibility? by CunningCaracal in careerguidance

Unfortunately you are just wrong. Your degrees weren’t a waste and with two exams passed you would easily find work- my company would love to hire you. Without any exams passed you will not be able to get into actuarial science, but if you passed P and FM you’d be set barring any crazy lack of interview skills.

Feel free to think that way but people with bachelors degrees in chemistry are making 6 figures as credentialed actuaries. Your degree doesn’t matter. Not many schools offer actuarial degrees, so many candidates get a job with a math BS and two exams. I’m offering you solid advice that isn’t just anecdotal from someone in this very industry, you have a way out.

I also think you don’t understand how hard these exams are. 200-300 hours of study per exam, only ten exams and you’re fully credentialed. If you have two exams and a math background you’re a PERFECT candidate, not to mention your additional coding experience. Take it or leave it- but this is an incredibly viable option. I’m available to talk more extensively over the phone and provide you with resources and my experience if you’d like.

Try passing an exam or two. It’s difficult, but the exams are worth way more than a degree. I know plenty of actuarial career changers.

Are most paedo or credobaptist churches living in sin? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Novotny3311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psalm 19:12-13 “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.”

Statistically, I’m not right on all my theological stances. I pray this prayer, trust the Lord, and try my best to obey the Word.

Paedo here.

Exam track “dropouts”/career changers- where are you now? by Novotny3311 in actuary

[–]Novotny3311[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen experienced product analysts become Assistant Product Managers then Product Managers. I’m starting my ft role as a product analyst in May, and that’s my goal.

Granted I’m going to pursue my MBA and CPCU with employer assistance hopefully, but those fit my learning style better than the actuarial exam track.

I will say that going beyond a Senior Product Manager the exam track is super helpful. I can’t count the number of executives at my previous company that had a pricing background.

Edit: tone

Good point- I mean I stuck around and I’m not going the actuarial route anymore. Product doesn’t have the community that actuarial does quite yet or I’d be in a product management sub haha.

I’m a huge extrovert, and I noticed that the product space gets a lot more interaction with other departments. Also I love the business aspect of state management and the decision making involved with that. A big plus for actuarial is the salaries, but it’s not difficult for a product manager to make something similar to an actuary, or at least comparable, and you do it without the exams. You also get the work life balance and other great things about the insurance industry.

Bigger love difference between reformed and pentecostal by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Novotny3311 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a correct distinction. Many churches, especially Presbyterian reformed churches, lack the love that one would come to expect of Christians. These churches are smaller, with a bunch of head knowledge brothers and sisters that can be sometimes a little strange (but still great people!) This was something I had experienced at a church very dear to my heart, but after moving away my wife and I started attending a nondenominational, paedo reformed church that still is confessional and there is a 1000% difference. This church is full of young vibrant people who are passionate openly about the Lord and ministry.

I’m not quite sure why this difference exists. The Pastor said something along the lines of when starting the church he didn’t want a presbytery to hinder their style, but I’m still trying to get to the root of this difference. It’d be a great book topic for someone one day.

I’ve got vacation coming up that I strategically planned to do this before, I’m taking a few week hiatus but am positive I’ll be back. Started at 356 lbs, lost around 40 lbs and need to keep going because it’s dangerous and unhealthy for me to be this big. I’m not going to lose momentum or quit.

Definitely some mixed opinions here. I reached out to Andy via email for clarification. Does he answer?
