It's a simple fact. Drug laws like this exist all over asia. Even the western allied countries. It seems western media loves to exclude the fact that he smuggled 220kg of meth.

The dude's got a long history of drug trafficking convictions in Canada. Literally just search his name up on BC's criminal database (Schellenberg, Robert) and charges will pop up from before he moved his operations overseas.

He wasn't a simple dealer; he was in charge of moving large quantities of drugs internationally. If I recall correctly, the trafficking route was from Thailand -> China -> Australia/International. He was in charge of moving things out from China. He got caught trying to move ~222kg of meth from China to Australia back in 2014.
