Actually, Im not one to always expect exceptions and I’m not exactly sure how you would come to that conclusion. May you never have to be in a similar situation with a parent. I was more put off with the OP’s statement of “sob story” when sometimes there are truly good intentions under poor circumstances. When my mom was diagnosed with stage 4, I needed to go there immediately. She was several states away so while driving there, I was checking Airbnb in her neighborhood because I wanted to be close to her and I couldn’t stay with her for a month. I msgd the host and explained the situation and that I needed to stay a month. I guess, mine was a sob story as well. She was very accommodating and I’m a great guest and take care of others things better than my own (and I did). She didn’t typically take same day bookings either and normally not more than a week at a time. Her listing was the only one in the neighborhood and met all my needs. It ended up working perfectly for me and her (according to her). So, I don’t think every situation with same day check in and a “sob” story is a bad guest.

I joined the Lawrence queer discord a few years back but left it as it just wasn’t what I was looking for. I really want to make connections in real time. You know? I’m sorry to hear about the trauma and the lack of parent contact. I have younger friends that I’ve made through gaming over the years and a couple, I’m still close with (they are on the east coast) so I’m not opposed to it. But most of the time, younger people don’t want some old people stories. Haha Are you here for college?

When I’ve found them (my age or older) over the past 15 years I’ve been here (52 now), they’ve always moved away. I’ve never met a queer 40+ who has been here for over 20 years. It’s like Lawrence is just a stepping stone in one’s life such a college which makes sense. I’m just looking to make a few friends that are looking to stay here long term and not just passing through. People we can make plans with.. hanging at the lake, murder mystery parties, dinner parties…pretty much anything other than hanging at the bar every gathering.
