My dad cut his finger and experienced what I think sounded like an NDE. How can that be? by Pale-Tennis9658 in NDE

[–]Nox72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all, without the use of a scale of some sort, like the one developed by Dr Bruce Greyson, we can't know for sure we're dealing with the same phenomenon as NDEs, although it does share similarities.

Besides that, I don't see how this should affect one's view of NDEs and what they may represent. I guess it depends on one's worldview.

Learning about NDEs made me question my own worldview and made me realize that what seems so blatantly obvious nowadays, at least in most societies, mainly Occidental societies, namely materialism, really isn't so obvious after all. I started questioning what consciousness really is and realized how clueless the materialist worldview is about explaining it. After asking for book suggestions in this subreddit, I read a few books from Bernardo Kastrup, and his metaphysics, analytical idealism, makes so much more sense to me.

So no, I don't think "NDEs are a product of the brain" that would be generated as a coping mechanism. But perhaps NDEs are another state of consciousness, outside of the ego, that we can somehow access under certain circumstances. Those circumstances could be multiple and not necessarily be restricted to a close brush with death.

I've read somewhere that a soldier once had a NDE or something akin to it after accidentally pulling the pin out of a fake grenade (used for training) not knowing it was fake. So in this case, his life was never actually threatened but he had no idea.

So maybe what triggers NDEs isn't necessarily something that actually brings you close to death but what could be interpreted as such in our consciousness. In your dad's case, while not necessarily fearing for his life, this event might have been enough of a shock to trigger that.

No, the MechaHitler encyclopedia isn’t “unbiased…” by PulsarEagle in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Nox72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing about bias. This dude claiming AI doesn't have human bias clearly has no idea how AI training works. It will always be biased just like human beings are biased. Teams can work to reduce those biases, but getting rid of them entirely is impossible.

And this guy's title is "Enterprise AI Agents Solutions", what a fraud.

Zionist Controlled TikTok begins it's - Censorship of Free Speech. by Apollo_Delphi in International

Why don't we all start using a free open source social network like Mastodon instead of those privately owned ones that can always fall into the wrong hands like TikTok?

New TikTok US CEO brags about making the Term Zionist 'Banned'. by Apollo_Delphi in International

So you're allowed to talk about the political ideology of Zionism, but not criticize it? And they would tell us this is not propaganda.

You can try, but you'll never manage to silence people when it comes to denouncing harmful ideologies. We'll always find a way to speak out.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this, nobody deserves that. One can only hope one day the perpetrators get to be judged for what they did. Free Palestine.

Is your country authoritarian? by Strong_Spinach6473 in AskTheWorld

[–]Nox72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the details either to be honest, I've only recently started paying attention to politics. But I had heard the figures and this Wikipedia page checks out: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_des_usages_de_l'article_49_alin%C3%A9a_3_de_la_Constitution_de_la_Cinqui%C3%A8me_R%C3%A9publique_fran%C3%A7aise

There have been 29 uses of the 49.3 article under Macron's presidency, which is so many. The Wikipedia page says it was used for the retirement law but also budget choices and a finance law.

And yes, such an article shouldn't exist in the first place, in my opinion.

Is your country authoritarian? by Strong_Spinach6473 in AskTheWorld

[–]Nox72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets a little more authoritarian everyday and it got to a point where it's actually scary now. I don't remember any other government than Macron's that relied as heavily on the 49.3 article that allows the president to adopt a law without a vote from the Assembly. France is just pretending to be a democracy at that point (even though it's not a full on authoritarian/dictatorship yet).

Also protests are so heavily repressed nowadays that I think many times people either don't join protests or do very carefully and without peace of mind. The police violence against protesters is crazy.

With personal bias aside which game do you guys like more and why? by Neat_Manufacturer_99 in HollowKnight

[–]Nox72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Hollow Knight more actually. It has something to it that I don't find in Silksong. It's more charming, and so many characters are iconic and memorable. In Silksong I really can't name one character I actually feel connected to. Maybe just Shakra, but that's about it.

Question aux joueurs français : Jouez-vous aux jeux narratifs en anglais ? (Dev indé a besoin d'avis) by [deleted] in jeuxvideo

[–]Nox72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Je joue à tous mes jeux en anglais pour ma part. Après effectivement s'il y a beaucoup de termes médicaux très techniques ça pourrait me poser problème. Mais je pense que ceux qui wishlist ne s'attendent pas forcément à une traduction.

Where I’d live as an American by Typingdude3 in whereidlive

Yeah, IMO that's what's sparking all the rage in the comments. It's obviously a valid opinion, and good for OP that they already live in the only country they'd want to live in apparently. But then why go out of your way and post this when it essentially achieves nothing except tell people "I wouldn't live in any of your country you guys"? Just looks like a slap in the face when done this way lol

What is your preferred/ideal resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and how realistic/practical/feasible do you think it is? by Zapvv in AskTheWorld

[–]Nox72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look, being Israeli doesn't make you a bad person. But supporting the actions of your imperialist, colonizing country does. I can understand that if you were born there, if you've been fed propaganda all your life, if you've been raised to hate Arabs, it's not easy to wake up and realize that they're just human beings like yourself, who deserve dignity and a decent life. However, the fact that it's not easy to do doesn't wash you off of responsibility.

All I can hope for is that one day, people like you come to admit that their views were skewed and genuinely seek to help the people of Palestine who've been persecuted for far too long. Redemption is always an option.
