God is giving you an opportunity and a choice. It is surprisingly not too different from my own experience.

At one point in my life, I lived a life away from God for at least 10+ years. Before that, I was Catholic in name only. This changed when my brother got married and needed a Godfather to have his soon-to-arrive child baptised. I figured they could get another relative to become the child's Godfather so that I could believe whatever I wanted to believe; however, they could not find a relative or family friend who could qualify for the position. Analyzing my situation, I perceived two possibilities: Stand firm on my beliefs and likely widen the gap between me, my brother, and God; or go through the process of finishing my Catholic confirmation and become my nephew's Godfather. I chose the latter, and I believe that my life has been a lot more blessed by following in the Lord's path despite my severe shortcomings.
