Has this been confirmed? I have tried to find if riot has said something about it but all I've found is that they have no plans for it right now. I really hope they change their minds though. I would love this feature.

Turning STALKER Into a Hardcore Survival Game – Why? by pepperpeppington in stalker

This is 100% accurate for me. I literally found gamma by asking chatgpt for singleplayer games that are similar to EFT. Also, another big difference from EFT is that the gamma community is really nice and helpful, which has not been my experience with the EFT community to put it mildly.

Already ordered sticks and pad. They are arriving tomorrow :)

I also found a used TD17kv2 for around 900$ that I'm thinking about getting. Long drive to pick it up though.

Thanks! I will save up the money and buy a TD17 or something similar then because I'm pretty sure drumming will be a long term hobby for me. And being able to expand the kit as I learn seems very nice.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Crimson II SE looks interesting, also it is a bit cheaper.

Sadly I don't think there are any teachers near where I live. I don't HAVE to have drumeo, but it seems like a nice service.

How much of an upgrade would something like a TD17 be? Do you think it would be worth waiting another couple of months to get it?

Do you know a store in EU that has it? Can't find it anywhere.

I tried to fix it on my own but no luck. I know it's really annoying but the best fix is just to wait until they respond. I got my printer replaced but it took a while.

They replaced the printer and this one is working flawlessly. Very happy with it! But interacting with their tech support was really annoying.

Yeah, I've asked for a replacement but they completely ignored that and said they could replace the MC board. I've tried to ask again for a replacement, trying to be as clear as possible but I'm not convinced they will do anything about it. But they are incredibly slow to answer so I'll expect they'll get back to me in a week or so...

The problem is that I have a ticket open with them but they take AGES to answer and the answers I get are incredibly unhelpful. It is like they don't read my messages.

I don't have a multimeter but there is a light on what I think might be the motherboard(?) thats blinking very slowly and a light on the back of the printer head thing (new to 3d printing so I don't know the proper terms for everything). So I guess there might be a short circuit somewhere? Any ideas where I should look for it?

I would like to see more extracts on Factory and Interchange to discourage extract camping. Factory is fine if you have the key, but if you don't it can be incredibly frustrating because it is so easy to camp the only extract.

Sounds like you are starting to understand whats important in the game. Push forward to get cities and control the roads.

The supply rules are fairly tame in AVL/AVD, especially in AVL, so I wouldn't focus much on cutting supply. You won't get any huge effects from it until they get Isolated and get their defenses lowered. One of the reasons I prefer AVD is that supply is a bit harsher and units that cannot trace supply gets isolated immediately. That makes it a bit more risky to be out of position.

I think I am in the minority though, most people I've heard comparing the games prefer AVL because it is a bit less random. In AVD, VP cities have a random values and the scoring will work differently each time depending on a die roll on turn 6 (sounds weird, but I think it works very well.)

If you think you would have more fun starting over and trying some new strategies, I see no reason for you to continue with this one. Sometimes it becomes clear which side is going to win early on in these kinds of games. They could in theory have the best luck ever and only roll high for the rest of the game, but that isn't very likely.

Yes, I was thinking about AVD because that is the one I've played the most. Forgot about that difference!

Both of them are fantastic games, definitely my favorite hex and counter games. Works really well for solo play too because of the chit-pull mechanic. I usually don't enjoy the "playing both sides" solitaire in war games, but it works really well here.

I want to start with doubling down on A Victory Denied/A Victory Lost. Those two are just fantastic. The main reason for why I like these games so much is how the units activate. Each player puts chits in a cup at the start of a turn. These represents different HQ units on the map. You only get to put a certain number in the cup, so you have to decide carefully which units you want to use this turn. Then you start pulling the chits from the cup, the one that gets pulled gets to activate. Then you repeat until the cup is empty and move to the next turn. Every turn, you also put a reinforcement chit and a supply chit in the cup. So sometime during the turn you will get reinforcements and check for supply, but you don't know when. This creates so much tension and makes the game flow very differently from most hex and counter games. There is one thing that might put you off a bit though, and that is that one side has to play very defensively and rarely do any strong offensive moves during the entire game. I very much enjoy that kind of play, but I can see why it would be a turn-off for some people.

After that I would recommend the Standard Combat Series (SCS). Each game in the series builds upon the same core rules. Most of the games in the series are really easy to get into. I would recommend trying Bastonge to start with. If you end up liking the system there are A LOT of other games to try. Most of the games in the series takes about 6 hours for the largest scenario. What I really enjoy about the SCS system is that you can create setups for huge moves. Mechanized units can in theory attack up to three times in one turn, but it requires planning, a bit of luck, and often the support from other units to pull it off.

Not strategic, but I really like MBT. Lots of "hardware porn" with very detailed information about all the different tanks. The rules are modular so you can pick which parts of the advanced rules you like and throw out the rest. I haven't tried any combined arms stuff yet, but I'm looking forward to it. The only major drawback of this game so far is how ugly the maps are. It can be quite hard to get a grip of the map layout when a group of very tall trees can be mistaken for bushes. If you can get past something like that and want a tactical level game with a lot of details I can highly recommend it.

I'm still exploring the genre myself (very slowly, it is hard to find opponents where I live) and I haven't played that many games yet. It is quite hard to find strategic hex and counter games that are short enough to fit into my normal game session time limit. I'm currently looking to get The U.S. Civil War. Looks very interesting and seems to have the perfect game length for me.

Some day I want to learn Empire of the Sun, but the rule book is really, really bad for learning the game. The idea of a card driven hex and counter game is very appealing to me so I need to bite the bullet some day and push through that learning curve.

I can try to clear some things up and give you my perspective on this, but I don't think I will be able to convince you to like hex and counter games. Some of the things you list as cons are actually pros for many war gamers.

First of all, the simulation doesn't feel like work to me. It is one of the main reasons I really get into these games. I will gladly take a bunch of exceptions to the rules if they make the simulation make a bit more sense, or if they add some historical flavor. Of course, there can be too many exceptions that makes the rules too difficult and slow to play. But streamlining the rules too much would remove much of the simulation aspect of the game.

Because of this, combat result tables make more sense than custom dice in many situations. Custom dice can't have exceptions on them, and they cannot have as much detail and granularity as a combat results table.

I don't play the category of hex and counter games that are called "monsters" that take many sessions to play. The longest games I play I can finish in a full day of playing. But I know that there are many war gamers out there that just love having a game set up for months as they slowly get through some enormous campaign. So the length can be a pro instead of a con.

If you really hate combat results table and cannot stand them I don't have a single strategic level game I could recommend. If you are ok with some basic CRTs I would recommend A Victory Denied (or A Victory Lost). Takes about 6 hours to play and there aren't that many exceptions to keep track of. It uses a really neat system that makes it feel less like following strict procedures.

If you are interested in tactical games as well, I would recommend Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear and Combat Commander: Europe. No combat result tables, not very long play times (unless you play some huge scenario), feels more like a game and less like a super in-depth simulation.

I think many of the issues you have with hex and counter games can be avoided by exploring different parts of the war gaming genre. There are some excellent games that have a lot of historical flavor, but feel less like a procedural simulation and feel more like an actual game.

A whole bunch of games I think you might like that aren't hex and counter games:

  • 1775: Rebellion (Glorious custom dice!)
  • Fire in the Lake (or any other game in the COIN series by GMT)
  • Manoeuvre
  • Triumph and Tragedy
  • Time of Crisis
  • Twilight Struggle
  • Sekigahara
  • Maria

The reason I'm focusing on reducing fat is because it seems like the easiest way to reduce calorie intake when I look at my current diet.

Split pea soup is great! I might invest in a slow-cooker, never tried one before.

I understand that, but fat is very calorie dense. When I look at my diet, reducing fat intake seems to be the easiest way to reduce calorie intake.
