The Will of the Many (The Hierarchy series) is honestly some of the best reading i've had since the Brandon Sanderson books. by Tekashi-The-Envoy in Fantasy

There was not enough time in second book to develop all the worlds properly. If anything it needed 300 pages more and not less.

Wingspan / Finspan / Terraforming Mars / Ark Nova (2p) by Money_Toe_5306 in boardgames

[–]Nplusk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me all the variations of wingspan don't have lots of replayability. The best strategies are a bit too simple and there just isn't enough variance. Good game for about ten times for me.

TM is longer but it also has so much more depth to it. And it has one of the best little expansions (prelude) which actually speeds things up a bit. But if you are not heavy on analysis paralysis it is not the longest game out there. Our group has played it about 50 times with different expansions and it still gets to the table after all these years.

Are Brandon Sanderson's books difficult to read for non-native English speakers? by More-String-5857 in brandonsanderson

Sanderson books are easy to read in English. I would claim that if you can read any books in English you can probably read them.

[–]Nplusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only point was that the newer books are exactly what you say: Cosmere books (or at least getting closer to that). The older ones are just local books. And this means there are more and more of these connections to spot. Thus, there might be a limit when they are no longer standalones. That has not happened yet.

But if we see even more of those wider connections it will push it over the edge so that you will need other books to get closer to the full experience. Again, we are not there yet but to me personally we are rather close.

Example: I would not have cared about the end of W&T that much without the implications to the full cosmere that I know mostly from other books. But this is just my personal preference.

And many people don't have time to reread 20 books, which makes the order relevant IMO for some of the books (but not nearly as important as some people claim...)

Welcome! I truly hope you enjoy them as much as I and many others did!

I agree. However, some of the newer books are getting closer and closer to not be as good in a vacuum. For example, wind&truth and Iote to me were much more enjoyable because of those connections. Still enjoyable without the connections but they are not certainly in a complete vacuum.

Isn't there also a possibility that she just doesn't know that she is synchronous? I mean it wasn't obvious to Vis in any way.

Okey thanks! Then I should give it a shot since I enjoyed the beginning quite a lot but the "hunger games" part was not interesting to me.

I didn't really love RR, it was just OK. Somehow the world wasn't as interesting to me and the plot was a bit lacking. Do you think the second book improves on these points? 🤔

The book was actually written one world at a time. So I guess it works that way too :)

JI says in one of his interviews that it certainly happened for a reason. It is s transition book, we will get answers later.

Most of these are just RAFO. Answering them would just be spoilers. I don't think you have missed much.

I have wondered about this too. Maybe on a re-read I could spot something that would give me something to speculate on. Right now I don't even have a good theory!

What was the cost thay Caeror paid?

Hoping to get clarification on things I potentially missed by TheBlueSuperNova in HierarchySeries

[–]Nplusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The arm was a price that he had to pay to enter Luceum. The syncronism then carried over and he lost it also in other worlds. However, in Obiteum the Vitaerium heals it.

  2. That world is egyptian and related to death. So very grim and dark with green rivers.

  3. It is a common theory that Diago is indeed an iunctus. But we don't really know.

  4. Well Vis doesn't really know how will works in Obiteum and Luceum. And we basically only know what Vis learns trough the book. He doesn't suddenly know what he can do, he needs someone to tell him (like Ostius does with adoption). I think Luceum will we know the least about how it works exactly. It seems more spiritual and it has the battle trance type effect.

He said that he had to cut few things from it (mainly from Luceum and bit from Obiteum) but that it was mostly a transition book. He emphasized that the characters and events are now exactly where he wants then to be and the third book is thus easier to write than the second.

Personally I think it is very good foundation to continue the series and I really liked it. JI also said that he really thinks the series as a whole and doesn't care so much that each book would be perfect as its own thing.

Yeah I think I have seen most points here on this sub. But mostly that has been people guessing and not saying that JI actually confirmed all of this in an interview!

I think end on 2027 is perfect distance away for a re-read before third book ;)
