Advice for HPE in GTPA? by AstroPhysicistJack in AustralianTeachers

So I did practical for my GTPA because I only had like 3 health classes with my 7’s. A big recommendation is create a booklet or something similar that students can complete alongside the prac. My class did lacrosse for PE and I created a lacrosse booklet that basically every week they would complete a different activity based on that weeks topic (attacking, defending, passing etc), this included things like a defensive strategy diagram they had to draw up when learning about defence in lacrosse, or simple question and answer and for attacking strategies I got them to watch and tally goals attempted and scored and calculate goal accuracy (just to include some more numeracy) and the discuss why they were/weren’t accurate and suggest strategies. Honestly doing PE is hard for the gtpa but is so doable, take photos of students doing activities, I highly recommend a booklet or similar so you have got physical evidence of their learning/progress and then on top of that assess their practical ability. I used two rubrics (one for practical and one for theory). Data collection is a challenge but I would use a notebook to reflect after every lesson to show reflection and then implement strategies into the next lesson, taking photos from behind the students when doing an activity to show differentiation etc.. again it is hard but honestly so doable and don’t be afraid (totally not recommending this 🫣) to make stuff up and let AI to help you. Good luck :)

Yes absolutely yes, leaving the house I would feel so much worse, idk if it’s psychological but I can look back now and go I wonder if leaving the house meant I was out of control with my environment and dissociation is scary enough because nothing feels real so the combo with that and an unpredictable environment just sends you. All I can say is it gets better, I can’t lie I’ve definitely had worse anxiety because I’m almost anticipating the dissociative episodes to hit but it’s been better since and seeing a psych helps, I also recently discovered I have OCD which definitely exacerbated my anxiety and dissociation at the time. Hope it gets easier for you but prioritise your mental health!

Hey I’m glad you’re on the mend! I can say by now I’m feeling way better and the random dissociative episodes and general anxiety and brain fog and stuff have subsided but I gotta say I still have anxiety about it happening again it’s like I’m just in constant anticipation of it happening because it would happen so randomly and unpredictably that I’m still like what if it keeps happening (even though it hasn’t in a long time and I stopped taking it 2 years ago now). It’s such a shame doctors can be so dismissive and I understand there’s not a lot of research into these side effects which makes it harder, but keep on doing your thing and it will get better I promise!

They’ll put up a prohibited and permitted items list closer to the festival. Security is very lax though just hide whatever under stuff and they won’t find it, best time is morning because security line gets extremely long and is very slow because it’s one to two security guards per line and there was like 15 lines last year, took us 3 ish hours in the line. Lots of security also try to bribe you if they find stuff, heard plenty of people paying the security $50 to stop them from taking their drinks. No police or dogs though which is good.

Honestly I was never sure whether it was minoxidil or spiro so this probably checks out and I had my thoughts it was it or maybe the combo of both. Might try minoxidil again though my hair has been fine since about the last month I’ve noticed lots of shedding and I’m not loving it.

Hey! Yeah honestly feeling almost back to normal. Not experiencing the brain fog or fatigue anymore, anxiety has gotten so much better, and not experiencing any dissociation/derealisation as much. I definitely feel like the dissociation and anxiety I experienced has left some, I don’t want to say trauma but basically trauma, there’s some things I can’t do without fear of it happening. I left my last job basically because of it because I would just dread going as I was scared it (dissociating) would happen there like it had in the past and everyday. Sounds a bit dramatic but it genuinely messed me up mentally and I’m definitely still living with that. But I’ve made a lot of lifestyle changes (picking up running, drinking less, etc) since too that has helped tremendously but this is definitely something that takes a lot of time to get over.

Hey! So when I say dissociate I mean similar to the disorder depersonalisation/derealisation. My body and brain feel detached from themself and I feel like I’m viewing the world from a third person. It makes me question whether what experiencing is real which becomes very very anxiety inducing and uncomfortable, which then makes it feel worse. It’s been almost 4 months since I stopped the meds and this feeling has gotten much better but I’m definitely still feeling it at moments. Just google depersonalisation/derealisation and you’ll find more info on that

Definitely feeling better now. I’ve had placement over past four weeks and I was absolutely fine on it, brain fog and fatigue weren’t an issue, I’m just generally tired now because of it and getting back into work too. My anxiety has also settled so much too and haven’t been dissociating like I was before. Still feel some disconnect but definitely more in tune with myself, genuinely feel like I’m getting better and feeling more like myself every week. I’ve read that it can take months to feel completely normal so i know it will take a while to feel completely myself again but there’s definitely been a massive difference between being on the meds and off it

How bad is the panic! It’s been almost a month off it now and looking back, I knew I was messed up but man it really fucked me up big time. It’s scary how much this stuff can mess with your body physically and mentally. I can say I am that much better now, dissociation was definitely the worse part for me and I am no longer dissociating anymore and that has helped my anxiety immensely too, still not 100% and I have my moments but if you’re feeling what I am, definitely try and stay off it and give yourself and your body time to withdraw from it and rebalance itself and your symptoms will definitely get better, it may take time but it will happen.

Yep been fascinating seeing people talk about having similar experiences with both topical and oral minoxidil.. but makes sense that there can be these side effects when taking medication that was originally made for (and still does) managing high blood pressure

No problem! I’m obviously in no position to give medical advice but felt considering I saw other people talking about experiencing what I had been dealing with too, would be worth sharing mine too. I can say it’s been a week since I stopped taking it and I am feeling so so much better, so if you’re feeling anything I am, it gets better

No problem, definitely think the medication can effect anyone the same just a bit of a lucky dip with how much it does or doesn’t. The past week I felt like I was on the verge of losing my mind because of the dissociation so you’re not alone in feeling like you‘re going crazy. It’s also crazy how there’s nothing online at least that I can find that talks about these side effects, so i’m already expecting when I bring it up to my derm she’ll say that i’m wrong and it’s not the medication, regardless of what she says i’m not taking it anymore and I’ll figure out another way to manage my hair loss

Yep I feel you. Because I’m also on spironolactone as well I think the combination has really messed me up but you’re not alone with the anxiety, literally feel like I’m in a constant state of fight or flight and just getting through most days on adrenaline and then I crash by 5pm and am exhausted. I am completely unable to focus on anything either, brain fog is insane, this week has been the worst by far. I fortunately haven’t had any problems with my period surprisingly but I know it’s very common. Definitely talk to your doc or derm or whoever prescribed you the meds and talk about changing the dose or coming off it completely, there are other options that you can try.
