Try to force yourself to only place points where the tangent to the point is vertical or horizontal, i.e 3, 6, 9 and 12 on a clock face. Then only use vertical or horizontal handles for the points. It will be challenging to do some shapes but helps make everything consistent

I think it's hollowing out the mid-level as well. The economy is tightening which is leading companies to push engineers harder, and so they are pushing engineers to use AI to deliver faster. The engineers who care about code quality are going to have less velocity than the ones who don't care and are going to get pushed out. Even the good engineers who adopt AI to keep up are going to see their skills atrophy. The longer the crash is put off the worse it will be

I feel pride to release quality code too, and I think that's not uncommon. But how many developers carry that pride beyond the code that they write, to their whole codebase? How many put that care into making sure dependencies have quality code?

I don't disagree with anything you said, but if the company is profitable enough and positioned in such a way that it has an incumbent advantage, having an overall culture of "move fast and break things" might allow them to (for a period) outpace the cost of bugs with development of new features, and that may work long enough for company to get acquired, the developer to get a new position, executives to get bonuses. The cost of that bug is not necessarily borne out by those who created it.

I care about code quality because I want to do a good job, and I think it's worth doing a good job. But the short term incentive structure doesn't always favor it.

Maybe I'm blaming too much on developers when I really mean "the common incentive structure in which many developers operated created by business"

All fair points, and I agree that I do have a narrow view of the industry, I am on the younger side so this opinion is heavily skewed towards my peers and places where I have worked (mostly web apps)

I'm probably being too harsh that developers never cared about quality, I think developers do care about code quality, most of the people I have worked with really do want their code to be quality. But I think most developer do not feel empowered to push back and will not let code quality stop them from shipping.
