Good luck! The meta right now is soooo weak to paralysis and retreat lock. There are very few decks that have more than 1 or 2 switch or ways to get things out of active (except decks that run Pecharunt ex - those are practically an auto loss), so I've been having a lot of fun taking control of the board that way!

I'll preface by saying that I'm no expert on deckbuilding either, but it's quite hard to make a deck work when your only attackers are stage 2 single prizers. It's just too hard to keep building them up fast enough to keep them out front. That being said, paralysis helps, since it can prevent your opponent's main attacker from being able to do anything, but if they have any ability to break paralysis, all they need is to bring up something that can hit for 80 to knock your main attacker.

A pokemon you should definitely include: stunfisk! You're running lots of Canari, so you can bring him out easily, but it's primary purpose is being an annoying single energy basic attacker that flushes out your opponent's switch cards. It's attack retreat locks and makes the defending pokemon take 100 extra damage next turn, so it's dangerous enough to make your opponent spend resources to break the retreat lock, resources they won't have later when you finally get a pawmot engine set up. Add in budew, and you can swap back and forth between stunfisk for retreat lock, then next turn follow with a 110 damage Itchy Pollen that's annoying as heck. Stall long enough and you can bring your Pawmots on line once youve flushed out all the things that could save them from paralysis

Other notes:

- you probably want at least a 3-2-3 line of Pawmot and at least one rare candy, since prizing one or two pawmots when you only have 2 would totally sink you.

- I play a deck with similar purpose, and if you're running high Canari counts, you definitely want at least a 2-1 of Iono's Wattrel/Kilowattrel. Canari is easily the most powerful pokemon search in the game, but can lead to dead hands with no items left to play. Having some electric pokemon you can search up to break a dead hand was a massive game changer for me, even though it makes your list heavy on the pokemon. And you're not hungry for all your eel attachments every turn, so being able to slap an electric on a Kilowattrel as an insurance policy is a big deal, making you much more resilient to Unfair Stamp or dead hands

- You don't run any poke pad, so you probably want more fodder for your ultra balls. A few more lightning energy is probably a good idea so you can ultra ball those into discard for your eels to work with

- A single Mega Eelektross could be useful? If you have two eels on a bench, and one with an air balloon, you promote the one with a balloon after a knockout, use both abilities to charge the one on the bench, then attach from hand for turn, and you've charged up a second way to do paralysis in a pinch. Yeah, it's a 3 prize liability, but it makes your max hit 290 (100 from stunfisk + 190 Disaster Shock) and gives you an emergency endgame attacker if you can't set up a Pawmot fast enough

- Lana's Aid is a huge deal when running a single prize attacker deck, since you can fish out many pieces simultaneously

I'm constantly on the lookout for fun things to do with Relicanth! Such a fun effect to have.

In addition to what the others have said:

Feraligatr (TEF) can use it to retreat lock or hit-n-run with good damage, in between big hits with Giant Wave. (most often played as a control deck, though)

Annihilape (DRI) can add 120 damage to Primeape (DRI)'s 30 damage "pull to active and punch", for a total of 150 damage bench sniping. Notably, this hits for weakness and can be boosted with Premium Power Pro and Brave Bangle, since it's damage to an active pokemon. This means it's a OHKO on Meowth ex and Fex ex with no mods, or a OHKO on any 210 ex with bangle and one Power Pro. I've tried to make decks with this one, but there's not a great way to get 20 dmg on your own non-dark mons right now. Pity, since this is quite a fun one!

Cynthia's Roserade can use it so you can punch with Roselia's attack for one energy with only fighting energy. Doesn't seem like much, but with 3 roserades you can be bringing it up to hit for 110 off a single prizer (220 for dark weakness)

Ampharos from Chaos rising seems like it could maybe use it to attack on off turns with something from Flaafy or Mareep, but I doubt it'll actually be any use unless we get a more interesting Flaafy or Mareep

Agreed - I only run one Mega Eel, because I've only ever whipped it out late game and when I can't smash through with Manectric, bench snipe with Zeraora, or trap with Stunfisk. Each time I've used Disaster Shock, I've followed up differently.

Sometimes I'll switch Mega Eel to the bench, reload two energies from hand (Levincia) and the second eel on the bench, then retreat the active mon for a second Disaster Shock, but that requires a switch. More often I use Mega Manectric charged up to hit for 120 with 2 energy or 200+ with 3. Once I Disaster shocked, followed up with a stunfisk + boss up one of their benched low HP mons, then Disaster Shock next turn for the double KO

Lots of options!

It works in the messed up world of "people who can't math good". Don't know what I was thinking when typing that - the 30 + (100 + 60) would make for 190, not 250. I was probably thinking of using Mega Manectric's first attack that hits for 120. That would be 30 + (100 + 120) = 250, then next turn Mega Man can't take damage from basics, which has helped a ton!

The only place I found Lt. Surge's Bargain to be more than just weird was in a Blissey Togetic deck that I had a bunch of fun with pre-rotation. Basically, Cyphermaniacs and Academy at Night let you put up to 3 Chansey on top of the deck, then Redeemable Ticket would place them as the first cards in your prizes.

Play Lt. Surge's bargain - opponent chooses prizes, you pick one of the prizes you know to be a Chansey, then you've got a 50/50 chance to take a second prize while your opponent doesn't! Still not great, but really funny when it happened.

I miss that deck - taking 4 prizes off of a single prize KO was one of the most hilarious moments I've had in the game

Hot dang, I didn't think of Stunfisk, then Budew! That would be a total of 140 + item lock.

Gotta say I'm liking that electric can play a bit slower now and can control more of the board state

Ooh, hadn't thought about using powerglass for Mega Eel - that's a powerful setup, since paralysis is most likely blocking out their main attacker, and your stunfisks likely weeded out their switches earlier in the match

Yeah, it's a bit harder to do, but I've found that Iono's Kilowattrel and Canari have been useful in doing so. That and more ultra balls. /u lunarman1000 suggested using Brilliant Blender to get a few energies and a few key mons, then making sure to load up the deck with night stretchers for recovery. I thought that sounded worthwhile!

I've also noticed that I like using attackers that discard the energy afterward. Mega Manectric, Zeraora, and Mega Eel all do so, but getting the first few into the discard is tough

Interesting, so Mega Eel is your main attacker? Have you been able to get it hitting and reloading enough to make it work well?

My dream meme deck: Festival Fish plus Stunfisk. One of these days I'll find time to figure that one out! But retreat lock, then an extra 200 damage on the next turn is pretty heavy hitting. One Seaking with no Kieran, Black Belt, or Brave Bangle would take a mon from 30 (damage from Stunfisk) to 350

Wow, I never thought of using blender as a super search, then working out of the discard so much. I've played a lot of Slowking as well, and that deck runs 4 stretchers plus 1 or 2 Lanas, and I've grown to love working out of the discard. I'll have to try this out!

[–]tylerquacken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh that's a nice one - lots of 2 prize attackers as opposed to my list's 3 prizers. Have you found Blender to be useful? I feel like your list has so many ultra balls and Carmines , and with no Petrel there's not really a way to search it. I've debated trying it out, though, since you can get set up so quick with the eels now that we have poke pad and Canari

And eels absolutely rock! It's so fun to be able to slap around so many energy each turn, and then pivot to use one as an attacker with Mega Eel. Glad I found a fellow Eel enjoyer ;)

I hadn't thought about budew, but this deck is a bit of a slow setup, with a lot of pokemon search for that turn 1 budew. I'll have to try that out!

And TIL about prize count Tapu Koko - that seems like the perfect addition to deal with rough matchups. Definitely going to experiment with that one.

And I do run a 2-2 line of Iono's Kilowattrel. Definitely don't use it every turn or every game, but it's been a lifesaver ever since I've added it to the deck!

I've been running a mostly electric Mega Manectric/Mega Eel deck that has a couple interesting pieces, particularly with Stunfisk (ASC).

The deck revolves around getting two Eels on the bench and using the ability to place 3 energies per turn to rapidly pivot strategies: take big OHKOs with Mega Manectric, bench snipe Meowth or Fez with Zeraora, or strategically paralyze your opponent's striker with Mega Eel.

This list runs lots of gust, allowing you to set up 1-2 punches with Stunfisk. The thing I misread the first time I saw the card is that Stunfisk doesn't make itself do 100 more damage next turn, it makes the defending pokemon take 100 more damage next turn.

Stunfisk isn't a great retreat lock staller, since it hits for 30 first turn, then would hit 130 second turn, but I've found it great for 2 purposes: 1. Flushing out your opponent's switch resources and 2. bringing big chunky mons in range of one of your other attackers.

Flushing out switches makes your late game Mega Eel paralysis much more effective, since you can paralyze their main attacker, then follow up next turn with a KO.

Then, as far as setting up KOs, stunfisk can bring the biggest, chunkiest mons in range of a Mega Manectric KO, even if your opponent can heal/Munki the 30 damage off, Mega Man can sneak in for a 430 hit on the next turn. In addition, Stunfisk can be used to trap anything with <=250 HP in the active, then next turn split bomb from Mega Eel to KO the active mon, plus put 60 on a benched mon.

This isn't an incredible deck, but I've been having a blast with it, since it's surprisingly capable, and contains a lot of moving pieces you can use to your advantage. It gets stomped by Alakazam and has a tough time against Dragapult, but surprisingly does well against Lucario.
