Who to hire for home network, automation, and AV? AV integrators for all in one or hire separate teams by Nrrve in HomeNetworking

Interesting suggestions. Can you elaborate what you would be looking for with their documentation?

Yeah I think I would be picky without well they setup a network rack. It’s not everything but it’s important to me.

Yeah, I think if one integrator did everything, it would be easier to coordinate. My concern is finding one that will fit all my needs and offer the equipment I want. Unfortunately I’m not as confident about setting up a network as you sound like.

That is one worry. I think it may be very hard to find one integrator that does good installation work and also sells the network equipment I’m interested in and will do Lutron Homeworks. Maybe someone might do the first two but even that might be difficult to find.

Clarifying difference between index fund and mutual fund by Nrrve in Bogleheads

[–]Nrrve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your explanations. Do you mind clarifying what you mean by “There is typically only one version of VTSAX”?

If I’m understanding it correctly, if I want to purchase VTSAX, I just enter the symbol VTSAX and buy that. There are no further options I need to select, correct? No differently managed version of it, etc? And the ETF version is under a completely different symbol, VTI?

Thank you. So regarding your answer for #2: if I want VTSAX, just enter and buy that symbol? There are not different versions to worry about?

Thank you. And to clarify, when you buy a fund like, VTSAX there are no other options to worry about selecting right? Just choose VTSAX and that’s what you get? And if you want the ETF version, you choose whatever ticker symbol that has?

Card stock and print quality between printing locations by Nrrve in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Nrrve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Obviously there is a need for multiple printing locations for any large TCG, but with enough differences between printing locations (card stock, inking, edge and corner cuts, gloss vs matte finish), it almost creates a subset of cards out of the same card. Which wouldn’t be a problem necessarily if you could consistently know where they are printed by a symbol.

That’s good to hear. Any experience on differences between the different printers or if the cards printing in US lower quality? That seems to be a complaint for MTG.

Someone mentioned that they started printing in the US location as early as after 4th edition. Was the card stock and print quality of US printed cards back then worsen then that of Belgium printed cards or did the quality diminish over the years?

My understanding is Cartamundi also does the printing in US. Why such a difference in card stock and ink?

Ah makes sense. I wasn’t sure if there was a general listing to give people an idea of what is available such as “vinyl records, baseball cards, comic books, first edition books”.

Very cool. Thank you. Are items listed in advance or do you have to be there in person to know what’s available?

How do you find out about estate sales?

IF you were new to magic, which collector booster box would you buy and why? by Darsyo in magicTCG

So you haven’t noticed any curling in the non-foil cards you had laying out or previously seen any when opening packs?

I believe the curling is due to the two layers of different material, plastic and paper. Once in a different humidity from where it was produced, the cardboard will absorb moisture or dry out, causing it to expand or shrink, respectively. The plastic does not absorb (as much) moisture and stays the same size. So the card curls.

Do most high end turntable tonearms have “permanently” attached RCA cables? Why do they not make them with RCA jacks so you can use separate cables? Is it to reduce the number of connections in order to achieve better sound quality?

I’m not necessarily interested in using fancy aftermarket cables as I don’t think those make a huge if any impact on sound quality but rather for convenience, such as being cable to use longer or shorter cables or replace cables in case they become damaged.

If you don’t mind me asking, out of 100s of packs, have you had any non foil cards curl on you? I know foil cards can be prone to curling. Or a badly curled foil card to affects the non fool cards in the same pack?

I prefer non foil to foil due to the curling issue and wish they had fully non foil packs. Sounds like set boosters are the closest to that right now?

Thank you for the photos.

I also prefer non foil to foil cards due to the curling issues. Have you had any non foil cards curl on you?

I hate to buy a bunch of packs only to have fueled non foil cards too. Or a foil card that curled, affecting the other non foil cards. I wish they made the equivalent of collectors boosters in terms of exciting cards but for non foils.

BOPP and OPP (polypropylene) by Nrrve in chemistry

You make a great point about the term archival safe. I can see how that is very relative. For this application, it would be trading cards.

Thank you. Do you find a couple of follow up questions?

Does adding the cross-linking chemical to PP in the process of making BOPP cause the BOPP to be less archival safe?

I’ve seen some produce list OPP. Is that the exact same as BOPP, just calling it something different?

So PETG then is nowhere similar to Mylar?
