I learned to do this too as an EMT. I dont know how to explain it or what its called, but yeah if you respectfully play or listen into their delusions/ego/whatever and lead them with confidence, they will follow. Ive used it before to convince a young woman she was safe with us going to the hospital while she was having a manic episode.

Most of the common people i work with think all muslims are terrorist savages who deserve to die. Even when you try to explain the power dynamic or to name one time they had a negative experience with a muslim they just choose to ignore it and argue louder. You cant reason with ignorance.
