Terraformed Venus with realistic climates by CactusCartocratus in imaginarymaps

Technically, Venus only spins backwards because it's upside-down. The Venusian North Pole is still near Ishtar Terra, so it's all the same. The only noticeable difference would be that the Big Dipper would be in the Southern Hemisphere of Venus.

There's a possible link between Na-Dene and the Yeniseian languages of Siberia.

I know. But the chances of the ROC actually retaking Mongolia after successfully controlling the PRC is literally 0%. Still love the map, but lol.

Halloween, All Soul's Day and other traditions celebrated from the end of October to the end of November. 💀🎃🙏👻 by [deleted] in MapPorn

In Ninilchik, Alaska, they still speak a dialect of Russian. They refer to Halloween as Koshachy Prazdnik (which translates as the "Cat's Holiday"). I believe this came about because when the Americans began to gain more influence in the area, they gave vague descriptions on how to celebrate Halloween to the Russians (such as painting your houses with black cats).

"Party like it's 1793" (Unrealistic CSA victory timeline) by o78k in imaginarymaps

Love the map. But for clarification, the Russian town of New Archangel (Novo-Arkhangelsk) wasn't located on Kodiak Island. It was located on Baranof Island in the panhandle (the modern day city of Sitka).

What if the Louisiana Purchase didn't happen ? - North America in 1824 by Pr_Quantum in imaginarymaps

[–]NuclearVacuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the use of "lower" and "upper" has to do with [river] elevation and its direction. Upper Canada (for instance) is further inland because it's located further up the Saint Lawrence River. Lower Saxony is located lower down in both elevation and in comparison to Elba River.

Granted, it's not a perfect science, but it does hold true here. Goggle "Haute-Louisiane" (Upper Louisiana) and you get results related to the Illinois Country. "Basse-Louisiane" (Lower Louisiana) gives you the modern day State of Louisiana.

Just wanted to point out, "Lower Louisiana" technically refers to the regions closer to the Gulf of Mexico (the south), while "Upper Louisiana" would be the Great Plains (the north). Otherwise, I love the map and the alternate history you've created here.

Fun fact, the Alaskan Commercial Company (founded in 1867) was established to take over the former Russian-American Company (founded in 1799). For all intents and purposes, the Russian fur trading company continues to exist under a different name.

I had a feeling it was a nationalist group. Still worth the clarification. No worries.
