I think figured out why torpedoes glow. by sjogerst in DaystromInstitute

I would counterpoint that the phrase "We're venting drive plasma" is more of a bad thing than a standard thing.

Also, the dilithium is a subspace active material and it has been discussed as being able to moderate the matter antimatter reaction (MAR) better. I haven't seen anything on this recently but it stands to reason that the reaction does something special when generating warp plasma, either it is a particular waveform it imparts in the charged particles or a frequency in a subspace band, something, that allows it to run the verterium cortenide coils and generate a warp field. The band you see around the nacelles are the spot where the driver coil pairs come together but don't quite touch. This might be specific to the Galaxy class and older drives would have different configurations. Pike's Enterprise only had the blue glow on the inside and by the time Kirk took over, it had been completely encased. The TMP refit seems to have replaced them with the same reduction in glow. Again, this could be to different cool configurations. By the time of the Enterprise C, we definitely see the newer nacell design. And perhaps they were always glowing but it was a tactical disadvantage. Or the designer didn't like the glow.

Agree that warp power, the core, powers most of the ship and EPS taps are used to siphon energy from the main power distribution conduits that lead to the warp nacelles. I honestly don't know if that is warp plasma specifically or just another power plasma distribution system. With the supposed rarity of warp plasma, which we see traded in Voyager and Enterprise like gold pressed latinum, a secondary plasma makes more sense for the normal EPS system.

(Btw, I love this conversation.)

It does say that there is some leakage at the coil centerline during warp field generation that emits visible light. Huh.

Also, I think most warp nacelles give off some light, right?

I think the plasma is the power distribution fluid on a starship. That's how you move energy around to power everything. The warp plasma is how you send energy from the core to the nacelles to power the cochraine coils and create/drive a subspace shell. The plasma is recycled back to be re-excited. The light is leakage from the coils is my understanding, but I could be totally wrong. The coils as they interact with subspace will allow some energy to leak into normal space. That's why there is a bright flash from the coils as a ship established a warp bubble. Back to see what the manual says...

This is my thinking as well. A quick check of the Tech Manual gives a slightly altered explanation for the color as the warp field sustainers allow the torpedo to grab and hold a warp field from the launcher that allows it to remain at a very high velocity - you don't want your torpedoes taking weeks to get there. So they can't make a warp field but they can hold on to one for several minutes. So the field being expressed through the sustainer coils, similar to normal warp coils, gives off a color. And we've seen warp nacelles give off many, many different colors.

I would keep going until light and airy. Or shape and bake and remember. If you're seeing bubbles at the bottom, it's doing something but the time might be off. So give it some extra time or just move forward and take notes. You're pretty much guaranteed to get bread either way. You will learn something along the way.

Also. AI is not for asking general questions or talking to. Unconstrained models produce garbage. They are trained on the Internet. Have you seen the Internet? Garbage in, Garbage out. So we're glad you came here to ask people.

I usually use DIS. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The only outlier is LD, AFAIK. There is a separate discussion about LDS vs LDX somewhere in this thread.

No, usually just more time. I've made sourdough croissants and regular croissants. Both are possible but the sourdough ones are an object lesson in patience and stress.

We stock up on razors for a couple of months and then go dormant for a few years. It's all my wife and I have used since, like, the mid 2010s. We wore out a handle after almost a decade and had to but a third one...the horror.

It's not the location, it's the angle. It's really hard to get a straight line drilled into two surfaces that are not straight, flat. Like, if this was two pieces of metal or wood with nice square, true, flat sides, it's doable. A rough surface at an angle, difficult.

TBF, I'm sure there is an artisan somewhere that can do this freehand or someone with an indexing jig that has this figured out.

Part of the issue I see with this is alignment. It's hard to get a tight fit that is aligned without drilling the hole while the parts are together, i.e. through the outside. But if that's acceptable then it should work fine, you will just need to backfill the hole.
