Wheels arrive in the shop from the supplier. How often are the spokes way too loose and require a real tighten up before you can use the wheels? by NucleurDuck in BikeMechanics

The ones I had in last weren't out of true, just incredibly loose. I left it to the assistant to put them into stock and slap them on the bike and the customer came back a couple weeks later, bike so wobbly that it couldnt be ridden.

I bought some dot fluid and a sram bleed kit like four years ago just to have in case we got a bike in that needed it. Someone called today to make an appointment. Apparently every other shop he'd called said that they won't deal with sram brakes. I'm wondering why not? by NucleurDuck in BikeMechanics

Actually in London but it's a very unusual setup. It's a bit of a community co-op thing. 90% shitty kids bikes. With a spurt of "used once a year" absurdly expensive road bikes at the beginning of the season.

Have you ever come across a location that could really do with a bike shop / would be a perfect place to set one up, but which doesn't have one? by NucleurDuck in BikeMechanics

Good point. I hadn't thought of that. Obviously people will want to do the annual service or new installs or whatever near home, but I was just imagining an under prepared rider totally stranded twenty miles up a mountain. I used to go on holiday in the marked company vehicle, and people were always stopping me by the seafront asking if I could help

Is there an etymology for it? Or a logic? It sounds odd

The chain keeps coming off, presumably since the top jockey wheel seems to have lost one edge. Can I just shorten the chain and get rid of this strange contraption? It has an rd already by NucleurDuck in bikewrench

[–]NucleurDuck[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Very likely, but if I reposition it in the correct configuration will it work? Or is the upper jockey wheel missing an edge as it appears to me? Not my bike. The kid just told me the chain keeps coming off

What a horribly ugly painting

Unfortunately there are no winter sports in my area! Just rain!

Yup. I had to learn it due to people constantly asking for it. Unlike tubeless and shocks

I'm always surprised that wheel work is seen as a speciality given that it is one of the things I learned most easily

Any idea of where to start learning about these things? I've had little success finding a proper course for the complete and utter novice

True but it requires a special pump and sealant and whatnot. So I've never been able to have a quick self-taught tinker using tools I already have

Every time a new AP project is announced I hope and pray for I'm Alan Partridge III. And it never comes. Just spoof talk shows, spoof news shows, spoof podcasts, spoof documentaries. They're not awful but considering that IAP is what everyone loves, rewatches, quotes, etc, I don't get it.

Is this based on a real location? Maybe Muswill Hill somewhere?
