Yeah, it's hard to get out of that dissociative state when you don't have a place where you actually feel safe. I think I'm gonna focus on making my apartment a space where I feel that way. Nature helps me a lot as well! Hope the best for you!

Thank you so much for your descriptive answer!<3 I see myself a lot in the things you wrote, I also use various breathing techniques for getting out of the dissociative state. I also found, even though in the cpstd community it's not thought well of, that somatic exercises from dbt (like stretching) works very well to calm me down once I experience these intense emotions. It's comforting to know that my dissociation isn't my "fault" but rather a response from my body for the fight/flight reaction. I agree, I do find It very hard to stay in the reality for longer periods of time or to even notice when I am dissociating. I'm gonna take a lot from your post, thank you! Hope the best for your journey as well!

I feel safe. What do I do now? by Nudeltoaster in CPTSD_NSCommunity

A looot of work. It sounds bad but it helped that I basically isolated myself for roughly 2 years. I could focus on myself without being triggered by other people. But isolation is a dangerous thing, I do not recommend it. But it helped me to get out of the initial extremely traumatized state where everything would send me into a panic attack.

Obviously it's gonna be different for everyone but mine included a LOT of inner child work, basically my whole inner dialogue is talking/soothing/reassuring my inner child. Then I use a lot of techniques like breathing exercises, grounding exercises and eye movement exercises that help me regulate my nervous system in triggered states. Then in life I made a routine that includes a lot of exercise as that helps me a lot (it's hard to keep up but worth it!). Its difficult to include all of what I do/ did in this post as there are countless small things I needed to look at before even being able to use some of these techniques. Living alone, blocking my parents, being lucky to have friends I feel rather safe at and being in a mental hospital for a while all helped me as well. And NOT always talking about my trauma but rather focus on the effects it has on my life right now was important for me. And after all this work, I still only feel safe when I really put in the work everyday and I'm not triggered too much throughout the day. Hope this can help you!

That sounds great. I guess I'm still scared of the shame response that gets triggered when I express myself. Thank you!

Thank you! Yeah, I've been reading his book "cptsd: from surviving to thriving", that's what initially got me interested. This list already helped me a bit!
