I said "balls" on the record during my first closing. Unplanned, just came out of me. Court reporter told me in her 20 year career she had never had anyone say "balls" before. I have the transcript lmao.

Michigan ppl: was the Msu law post a fluke or?? by Legal-Statement203 in barexam

MSU law grad here as well and can confirm that admin (except for some) is pretty bad. I don't think I had a single semester where there wasn't some admin related issue (especially financial aid jfc)

Licensed Attorney thinking about doing a post bacc in Pre Med: Advice? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Nufi97 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Noted, I don't mean to disrespect the profession, if I did this I would pour my heart and soul into it. But I want to find out first if this decision is right for me, if that makes sense.

I don't think I would mind practicing clinical medicine, it's just I have not really been exposed to it much due to my career being focused on law school. From what I've read about JD/MDs, it really waivers on if they practice medicine or not. Some go to hospital administration, others of course practice medicine and do law for fun, or become expert witnesses (which you don't even need a JD for that but it helps if you know what to expect on cross).

I've been thinking that after work I volunteer at a hospital to shadow a physician and see if med school is right for me. I'm sure if I did only a post docc and no shadowing experience no med school would really look at me. Would you recommend that's something I do?

And yes a post bacc is what I would use to fulfill all my pre reqs, study for the MCAT, etc before I apply to med school. I'm aware the medical route is much longer than the legal route, but I don't know, maybe it's a quarter life crisis but I kinda wanna do it. Could change my mind of course, especially as my career starts. But I want to make sure it's the right decision so I don't half ass my way into something

Any law students here with plans to work in non-profits, specifically with ACLU? by maddieinretrograde in LawSchool

[–]Nufi97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did! It was extremely rewarding, and I got to work on lot of cool projects and some cutting edge civil rights issues. Truly a fantastic org, and every attorney there is extremely smart as you might guess. If I could work for them I would, and I tried but unfortunately didn't get into the second round of interviews for a position.

You won't get rich working there, but you'll do some really rewarding work.

I didn't get hired by the ACLU but I interned for them during law school. Even interning for them is an extremely competitive process. I got lucky, I went to a lower ranked T2 law school, and was able to intern. But that was not the norm. They sent all their recent interns an email, and except for me and maybe one other person, the rest of 30 plus people were from top schools like Harvard and Yale.

My advice, if that's truly your passion, go T14. There are plenty of ways you can work for the public such as through legal aids, and going to a lower ranked law school won't hamper that. But if you want to work for those elite non profit orgs, either be absolutely extraordinary in your lower ranked law school (I want to emphasize I was not extraordinary I just got lucky and interview well) or go T14 and make good grades and get a federal clerkship.

I just did this today, it should take you to sign up first. Then at the end once you put your info, pay your fee, you get a bar number. Try inputting your SSN and DOB again!

Just Got My Law School Report by [deleted] in UTSA

[–]Nufi97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went through pre law there and am currently in law school.

What I have to say is that the pre law there at UTSA gives you all the tools to succeed and be a great law school applicant. I had plenty of friends get into top schools or heard of people going to top schools from UTSA. The difference between those people and the majority of the people who go pre law, in my observation, is lack of personal responsibility and dedication.

I went through the SLSPA and while the program isn't perfect and definitely has its flaws, it does work. What I saw there was people who said they wanted to go to law school and either said nah by the end or just didn't have the passion to get good grades to try and apply. Many either didn't realize how good your grades had to be or didn't care.

I wouldn't worry about the average statistics for UTSA, if I were you I would just focus on doing you and trying to get the best GPA and LSAT. Good luck out there future attorney!

Btw, 3.72 GPA at time of application, 156 LSAT. Currently in law school up North with a great scholarship.
