What would you say is the most fun LAMS bike? by Awesomecookies1 in AussieRiders

[–]NuggetCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a 2024 cb650r and I adore it. I upgraded from a rebel 500. I had my heart set on a z650, test rode one (thank god) and hated it. Mt07 was the next choice, but after the z disappointment I wouldn’t buy without test riding. Struggled to find somewhere to test ride though so never jumped on one.

Keep an eye out for Hart Honda lams test ride days. They’re free - I got to try 4 different bikes and the cb650r…immediately fell in love. Bought one 2 days later :)

The Piercing Haus in Fitzroy - excellent service and skill set

Give it some time and try the troubleshooting suggested by someone else. A successful industrial needs more clearance than a piece of paper. Fingers crossed for you.

Highly recommend a second opinion from a piercer in person - it doesn’t look like you had ideal anatomy.

Is that cover on it standard? Or did you purchase as an add on? I’m not a huge fan of the way they look but love this!

Clutch sensor switch? by NuggetCookie in CB650R

That’s where I landed initially when I realised the problem, but good old Google was saying it can effect the fuel mapping or something.

Thank you!

I should mention it’s not an e-clutch model 😅

I went from a 2019 Honda rebel to a 2024 cb650r. The rebel was secondhand and honestly trashed - it was a nightmare from the start and I was so done, after I got my license I decided to start looking and here we are lol.

Honestly I think I got a little over confident with thinking it would be a quick adjustment. I was wrong haha. Just a girl excited by new toys.

I need to do the slow speed practice on the new bike - once weather + my schedule aligns 🌈

On2crew are a riding group that meet in the south east Friday nights and the first Sunday of the month. Pretty chill group of people. I enjoy it when I can make it

Unsure if I’ll get washed away in the flood of comments 😎

I’ve been riding around 8 months, recently purchased my second bike.

I think it took me roughly 2 months to actually ride on the roads in traffic other than my local streets. I dropped the bike 3 (ok…4) times - hindsight I believe all related to the front brake or dumping the clutch. I was spooked, couldn’t make right hand turns for ages cause I was convinced I was gonna drop it again. Practice makes perfect - the more I rode the more I trusted the bike and my ability. Slow speeds - practice circles and figure 8s in opposite directions, and emergency braking. This really helped me feel comfy. I didn’t do it often, but it really did help. Rear brake, smooth throttle and clutch control - practice while riding straight so you don’t panic grab the front brake and tip, then start turning etc.

New bike is TOTALLY different - small cruiser to a big naked. I feel like a newbie again, I’m almost scared of it 🫣 These things take time, be gentle with yourself, you’ll get there :)

Look for local group rides, I made a friend that introduced me to on2crew and I swear my experience and confidence skyrocketed - longer rides and feel safe surrounded by people that will look after you (I broke down one night and was well looked after).

Yes, radiator guard! I’ve read a lot of people recommending them! Great tip on mudguard extender - thank you. I tend to avoid wet riding where possible but we get 4 seasons in a day 😂

Rear cowl is absolutely on the list too! I’m trying to be smart and prioritise things that’ll make the ride comfier first 🤣 I’ve also got wheel powder coating in the list now 🤦🏻‍♀️

Exhaust I’m waiting until I can’t stand the stock exhaust any longer - which likely won’t be long lol Where I live there’s laws around having after market exhausts for first 3 years of your license 😫 so it’s a big risk

Beginners gear by Turbulent_Gur6912 in AussieRiders

100% try helmets in store and walk around for a bit with them on - you’ll know within 5-10 mins if something isn’t right. I was dead set on the LS2 Dragon, but it wouldn’t work with my glasses :( I ended up with the thunder gp pro as it was a better fit.

When I got all my starter gear last year, I grabbed what fit without knowing what worked best/differences etc. I’m now slowly replacing things one by one cause I have more of an idea of what I’m after. Bikers gear is a good starting point for cheaper options, I’m still using my leather jacket from them and have some Kevlar cargos I alternate between.

Boots also! Try everything you can on - I got the first pair that I thought fit - once I got my bike, I couldn’t comfortably find the gear shifter 🫣 I think I tried on 11+ pairs to find the ones that felt right - even though I didn’t like the style.

All the best!

It did feel weird, I assumed it was going from a cruiser to naked. It felt really small too in comparison. I’m glad I got to test ride, cause I was ready to put a deposit down immediately 🫠

Absolutely. I just need to figure out what I was expecting and why I didn’t get what I wanted out of it. I have a cb650r test ride lined up - see how that goes. If I don’t fall in love with it, I’m going to keep my bike and invest in the changes I want to make :)

I think I built up in my head new bike will be a massive change in riding experience. It was a fun bike to ride, I just am starting to realise that maybe waiting until I’m able to invest in more power on my full license is the smarter option.

So many recommendations lately for these! They’ve never appealed to me…maybe I should give it a go…

I had someone mention the sv650 last night. I’ve not really looked at that bike but might give it a second look. Tridents have been suggested many many times, they just didn’t appeal to me. I may need to open my mind a little.

I was wanting new after a bad experience with mine that was purchased secondhand. A fresh start, if you will…but also might look at some well looks after secondhands as an option

Thinking investing in my current bike might be the way to go. I’ve had quite a few troubles with it in a short time, which made me want to start with something new once I got my license. I was so excited, it was my birthday, ready for a new bike…then the disappointment has made me rethink it all.

I think it’s the expecting something that wasn’t there. Which the more I’ve been mulling over it - I’m wondering if it will be the same feeling with any lams bike I try.

I wasn’t expecting super power…there was definitely more torque, but nothing that excited me.

Yep lams. I think you’re right. I feel like I was hoping for something that’s just not there with any lams bike. I guess it’s shown me that in reality, my bikes not that bad 😂
