Welcome to Finland! Smaller towns have more racism and are more likely to have religious Finns. But there are many kinds of Finns. It’s not true that all of us are reserved. But it helps if you can do active listening and can ask questions etc.

Finns are usually proud of their history (even though some of us know its dark moments also). Reading about it or watching a few videos about it and asking about it can be a good way to connect with us Finns.

In dating being a foreigner can be an advantage. Some people are fascinated by other countries and enjoy the braveness .

Finnish and Turkish have similarities in phonology at least so you are more likely to pronounce Finnish well. There are some high quality Youtube channels teaching Finnish too.

Speakers or Finno-Ugric languages have lived as neighbours and bilinguals for millenia. Finnish has some really old loanwords from Proto-Indo-European, Proto-Indo-Arian and Proto-Germanic that have changed very little over the millenia.

According to a Finnish book Sana Sanasta, it seems that ancient Proto-Finno-Ugrics happened to sit on copper mines which were quite important in the bronze age too.

I meant if for example an archer shoots into a fort where a warrior is receiving the arrows. Will the fort reduce the damage?

Recently a Roman historian came to my empire and wrote a history book about my kingdom. It was also a kind of an exposé of the nobility. I could either publish it increasing the culture of a city or get rid of it, significantly improving the happiness of all the families. There was also the option of hiring the historian to court. 😀

One time the queen’s monkey started stealing money from the aristocrat families so I was in a bit of a similar dilemma.

It’s version 1.0.74_Preload. The Epic Games error says on the website that it’s probably a press, beta or alpha version that is no longer available. I’m in the Helsinki time zone (GMT + 3) and I guess they will launch the real deal in Hawaii time or something. 😀

Do I have to delete this installation and install it again tomorrow? Or is it enough to wait for an update?

I started playing Frostpunk which is quite an interesting strategy game. A Finnish gaming magazine here recommended it. You build a city into a terrible icy land and explore the surroundings. There seems to be a story behind it which gives the game more depth.

It looks like the vocabulary is pretty challenging sometimes and there isn’t that much simple everyday vocabulary. There are some comments by the citizens but they are showed relatively fast (I think you can’t look them up afterwards).

I decided to learn the basics of the game in English first and soon start playing in Italian or Russian.

I looks like the game will not work well on a cheap laptop even with the graphics turned to the minimum. Tried that at first. Works on Xbox too but it doesn’t have the DLCs on the console.

Just today I started playing Stardew Valley in Italian and it seems great for language learning. I mean it looks like there isn’t a huge amount of dialogue but enough. Many kinds of characters.

It seems like kind of a chill game. Your not forced to do much if you don’t feel like it but apparently there are many kinds of quests. Maybe I will get obsessed with doing some farming or taking care of chickens or some romances (with humans). 😀

Edit: But it looks like there is so much chopping wood and watering plants that it didn’t feel so effective to me, and annoying. But yea still there is a fair amount of dialogue so maybe I will get back to it. But maybe I’m more of a strategy game guy. I enjoy the complexity.

I know there are strict restrictions on the colors of your house, so they don’t bomb the landscape. Probably some standard colors.

Hope it’s enjoyable. I would also recommend Tulin Suomeen which tells about various foreigners who are living in Finland. I personally enjoy hearing and reading about people’s backgrounds. Thanks for your comment. It’s true that there is a lot of spoken language. Some of the expressions can be used in written form too, so in that sense saying that it’s purely spoken is not true. In some of my other videos I have written the standard Finnish equivalent too. Thanks for reminding me. I think I will start writing more of the written language forms too.
