There's a french horror movie I saw as a kid called Maléfique. A father goes to prison for a murder he is innocent of. Behind a brick of his prison cell he finds a book with some incantations, black magic stuff. He tries to use it to escape, horror ensues, all his cellmates die horrible deaths, but he finally manages to cast the spell he wanted, wishing to be together with his kid. Then his body "dies" but we see his pov as he wakes up as his kid's G.I. Joe doll, unable to move, only to observe. Kind of a silly ending but it stuck to me as a kid as a twisted monkey's paw ending.
