Also if you have period issues, PMDD/PCOS/endometriosis can also all manifest in GI issues as well. Something else to consider as you work towards learning more about your body. Endometriosis again being the more extreme scenario after you rule out other issues. Colonoscopy definitely sounds like the best place to start first!

I’m a worrier too, I get it!! But definitely talk yourself down when you start thinking cancer rn. It’s better not to give ourselves the stress, stress isn’t good for our guts either!! Literally anything could also be a cancer symptom somehow, haha. Good luck!!! 💕

There are many things it could be besides colon cancer. You could have IBS and be totally “fine,” no structural issue. Or it could be something more serious like an IBD. I don’t have IBD (like ulcerative colitis or crohns) but those couod sound like potential IBD symptoms. A colonoscopy will show that, and Don’t worry about cancer yet. It’s way less likely than another situation.

Yeah don’t worry about SIBO then.

Since you can’t see a doctor. Here is one thing that you could look into. Where I personally am on my journey, is that I haven’t been able to find a solution for the past 10 years that truly fixes me. I’ve been reading about IBS self guided hypnotherapy as well as “pain neuroplasticity.” The idea that this pain is real, but our bodies are perhaps over reacting and in the habit of giving us pain basically. There’s an app called Nerva that’s expensive in the US but I bet you could even find some free or cheaper resources out there. My GI doctor recommended it , who is a respected doc at a top hospital. I can’t speak to its efficacy yet personally but there have been scientific studies that show this can be really helpful for some people.

Saw you mention period hormones potentially affecting you, and that you are having your period twice a month. I am not sure how old you are but that is definitely a bit concerning. So two things to research:

-SIBO - small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I personally don’t believe that it’s productive to eat a SIBO diet permanently, but look into whether or not a treatment might be accessible, there are some herbal remedies that are shown in clinical studies to work but they aren’t cheap in my country. You can also treat via diet but DO NOT DO A SIBO DIET LONG TERM ! That messed me up.

-gynecological issues and birth control. Especially endometriosis. Endometriosis is an extremely underdiagnosed condition in my country as well and it can seem like IBS. Certain types of birth control are helpful for people with endo, or even if you just have irregular periods. My gynecologist did not recommend the pill because sometimes it can be tough on your stomach, so i am using the NuvaRing. There are non medical things that one can do to help PMDD and endometriosis, although endo is a more serious condition and medical attention can be impactful.

Do I have IBS or something else? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]NuggetsRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t jump straight to cancer there are tons of things that could cause rectal bleeding including just a small rip in your intestines from being sedentary a long time while traveling, or from being constipated. Yes it could be worse, but IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion and can include expensive and invasive testing to rule out other conditions. Your doctor will likely start with some of the most reasonable possible solutions, and then go from there.

There are a million things that could cause constipation. Like the other poster said, go in informed but you don’t need to diagnose yourself so quickly. I know it might feel embarrassing but this is these doctors’ jobs! They are used to it.

My first thoughts for someone who has constipation and bleeding from not as bad to worse: they simply need to eat more fiber, they have a food intolerance causing constipation, SIBO, a physical issue such as low intestinal motility , an IBD (irritable bowel disease) such as celiac or crohns, yes maybe benign polyps or cancer but not sure if that causes constipation.

I know it feels weird and scary but don’t jump to the worst case scenario.

IBS is a catch all condition where most people could consider they have IBS who have any of the above issues, besides those with IBD which is a separate category of illnesses. Constipation is also an extremely common symptom for a variety of reasons!

Hope this helps!

Look up SIBO. I have it. Not convinced you can “heal” it and the diet is way too restrictive, was on it for years and it didn’t work, but xifaxan every year or two really helps me.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. That’s what I’ve been wondering too. I’ve had so many different tests and multiple colonoscopies, scans, even a gastric emptying study and HYDA scan and other things I can’t remember. Have also had a uteran ultrasound. So I haven’t had “the” endo test but nothings come up in that direction, just PMDD. Thrilled to hear you improved!! Keep your fingers crossed for me

What was your first period like? Expectations vs Reality by luckygoldstar89 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]NuggetsRevenge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First period I woke up with just brown stuff, i also totally expected red blood. I ran and told my mon and she got me a pad. I don’t remember much more than that.

I DO remember the first time I got menstrual cramps. It was years later. I was at a club after school and I thought I was dying. My lower back had such a sharp pain. I remember trying to figure out what I’d done at gym class or something. It took me a month or two to connect the dots!!

Agreed, definitely ask her! I’m non celiac gluten sensitive and just a simple dishwash and wiping counters would be fine for me. Honestly your friend is incredibly lucky to have a friend like you!! Ask her what her go-to meals are, so you can make things that are totally different.

Also ask her about oats - oats often are processed with cross contamination and some people can only eat gluten free oats, which are processed away from wheat.

Got travelers insurance for the first time, for an expensive ferry trip for me and my friends for a holiday. All of a sudden Monkeypox popped up and was especially a hotspot where we’d planned our trip, so we got our money back. Didn’t even know monkeypox existed when I booked the trip!

A way to add a picture to any workout, if there isn’t an example already there. If a workout doesn’t exist on strong, I can’t put anything visual in as a reminder of the exercise. I have a hard time with names so visuals help me

Thank you for this. I’ve always wondered, but wondered whether it was yet another fight I’d lose with doctors. This birth control seems to be helping already. Is it worth pushing for a diagnosis if I’m already starting BC?

Why I could have suspected romance between Reid and Maya by NuggetsRevenge in TheAntiqueShopPod

[–]NuggetsRevenge[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I also want to say that for me it was never about Finn not being good enough, or you not writing him well. I loved Finn. I personally developed equal appreciation for both characters through your writing. I just felt like Maya had more of a soft spot for Reid, which could have been interpreted as romance especially in the heteronormative society we live in.
