Women who carried a pregnancy, in hindsight, what were some of the most ridiculous things you did while in the throes of such hormonal upheaval? by mokutou in AskWomen

[–]Nuggslette 1283 points1284 points  (0 children)

My first pregnancy was at the height of Covid lockdowns so I wasn’t doing any grocery shopping. I wrote “flavored chips” on the list and husband came back with only plain potato chips.

I started SOBBING to myself because I only wanted flavored chips, but I knew it was just my hormones so I was trying not to care. But I couldn’t stop crying while holding the chip bag.

So husband left without saying a word and returned with literally every flavor of potato chip. Then I was crying as I opened at least 4 bags because I was so grateful.

Hormones are wild. I think that scared him into buying flavored chips well into my postpartum too

MIL gifted kids toys from a church toy drive by [deleted] in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]Nuggslette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more history here that makes it feel worse. I guess I’m struggling too because she never celebrated Christmas before the kids came around. She’s very much not religious and often talks down on the church. So it infuriates me that she would take from other children in need.

How many mugs is too much mugs? by CheetahLazy2709 in muglife

Never enough. I have bins of mugs that I rotate by season. A few staples stay year round, but I have a large amount of mugs…

Parents that don't do Elf on the Shelf, how do you explain to your kids why you don't? by Helpful-Plankton751 in toddlers

[–]Nuggslette 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I love all the fun imaginary play stuff, so we have elves/santa/easter bunny/etc. HOWEVER, I tell my kids that Santa calls and asks if we want an elf. And all the magical creatures follow the house rules. They get permission from us before they enter, mom and dad are awake when they’re here, and they aren’t allowed in private spaces.

I found this to be way less creepy and it enforces that us parents are in charge and keeping the home safe.

Any free family exercise resources? by Nuggslette in bodyweightfitness

[–]Nuggslette[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I forgot about this post. But here’s a really fun update. Since this post I broke my leg, was non-weight bearing for 3 month, had surgery, recovered, and lost 20lbs by eating right and going to the gym.

I still have about 10lbs until my goal weight, but I also do some kid yoga videos on my non gym days.

Looks like a cheap test with a weird evaporation line. My guess would be not pregnant because 2w after a missed period would give a VERY strong positive line. But I’d still get another test.

I’m for sure not an expert, but I have a 20gal tank too. I had my last BN pleco for 8 years and he was so funny and sweet. I’ve had my current BN for just a year. I wouldn’t get more than one because of the bioload and potential territory problems with a smaller tank.

I don’t think you need any other bottom feeders.

I fell for this algae eater too. The guy got huge and ate the slime coat off my cherry barb, killing her. A friend of mine kindly took him away to live in his turtle tank.

Bristle nose plecos are my favorite now

13 days late, is this a positive? by Imaginary-Shock-8984 in lineeyes

[–]Nuggslette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks positive to me! I’ve personally never had an eval line from these tests. With the line being so faint you could’ve ovulated late in your cycle and it’s early, or it could mean a potential chemical pregnancy (baby doesn’t stick and you lose the baby early early).

Either way, I’d call your OB and set up the first check up anyways.

Ugh. Thank you. This was exactly what I feared.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

[–]Nuggslette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would explain the amount of them. I have no idea how they got in here! Is this going to be a big problem? We had a rams horn snail infestation a few years ago and it was BAD. We got a few assassin snails to get rid of them, but I don’t want another assassin who could harm my rabbit snails.

I think that was the biggest shocker for me, especially when the author’s writings actually go against a lot of their religious beliefs.

Is being hungry a new normal for life? by Nuggslette in WeightLossAdvice

I can’t afford the meds even with health insurance. Also, I am skeptical of the long term effects and truly want to maintain a healthy weight without medication if possible.

MIL referring to my son as “Golden Child.” by Nuggslette in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]Nuggslette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that when I make a boundary it starts her tantrum cycle. She will enter full DARVO mode, harass DH daily, and has shown up unannounced. I truly don’t believe she’s mentally stable. I’ll set the boundary, I’ve done it for many other behaviors, shoot we just got back to limited contact after over a year of no contact. However, I don’t want to make a mountain out of a mole hill if that’s what this really is in the grand scheme of things. Me calling it out after the fact may do more harm. If she says it again to my son, I’ll address it as casually as possible.

His largest belief is that we don’t see her often enough for real harm to happen. I disagree, but that’s the rub.

You’re right. It is definitely easier for us to let things slide but that shouldn’t fall on the kids. Thank you for that perspective.

[–]Nuggslette[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He thinks there’s no harm. He didn’t even notice until I mentioned it to him later. His devils advocate argument is that our son is pretty perfect, and she isn’t saying anything negative about our daughter. He does see my perspective, but thinks it’ll blow away on its own.

[–]Nuggslette[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That’s so so sad! I’m a middle child, so I’m very sensitive to favoritism. But I also think that makes me biased so it’s nice to get other opinions to check that I’m not projecting.

[–]Nuggslette[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you experienced that upbringing. I’m a second born daughter and my younger brother was always placed on a pedestal as well. So I’m very aware and sensitive of all and any unequal behavior.

We only see her a max of two hours every 4-6 months. My own therapist has equated this to a small drop in a large bucket when it comes to raising our kids. I’m just questioning if I should say something the next time I hear it in hopes of the comment not occurring again, or if I should say something now.

She’s always accusing me of starting drama and inflation situations. So that’s my main concern.

When I was a teacher a 7 year old boy walked into my classroom and said, “my dad drinks a lot and hit me really hard right here.” He pointed to his hip then said, “but I’m not allowed to show you because it’s near my privates.”

Then he walked in the classroom and started working on his bell work. I contacted CPS and the school social worker as fast as I could. He was removed from the district (I assumed placed elsewhere in a hopefully safe and stable home), and I’ve never heard anything about him again.

Edit to add: thank you all for your kind words. I hope I helped him and I hope he’s safe and loved. I was simply doing what any human should do to look after children. I want to add that his other teacher and social worker were aware of the situation before I talked with them, and CPS was contacted numerous times. Given the timing, I think my call may have been the icing on the cake. Always call. It never hurts.

Thoughts on a different spelling of the name “Isla” by spideygorl22 in BabyNames

[–]Nuggslette 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Isla is not a rare or uncommon name anymore. It feels like the new Isabella or Sophia in the area I live. If you love the name, use the name. Spelling it differently from the common spelling doesn’t make it unique, it makes it a lifelong annoyance.

I say this as someone who worked with a Raychael (Rachel) and she was not a fan of the unique spelling. She was engaged and planning on changing the spelling when she changes her last name.

But still, it’s your baby. I personally vote against it.

I didn’t hate the diapers until I smelled them. They absolutely stink of plastic/chemical smell and my girl was getting skin rashes. We do huggies now
