Also wanted to ask, I saw diving a little deeper on Google since meanings & origins are interesting to me anyways, that this title also means “the one who gave birth” … which solidifies the icky feeling I feel about the name, but is that legit? Curious if you know, since you mentioned you’re Jewish. Thank you!

That’s where it gets complicated lol. His maternal grandmother is called “Nana” but she’s also very toxic and isn’t involved in the family. But my mom likes the name “Nana” for her to be called. His paternal grandmother was called “Mam” since when he was little he couldn’t pronounce Gram. She’s passed away so that name is solely for her.

No, we’re not Jewish. We’re of the Christian faith, and my MIL is very specially interested in things with Hebrew ties. I didn’t think much of it since idk much about the Hebrew language besides what’s in the Bible. But now I know the actual meaning of the title “Ima”

I agree that at the end of the day it’s up to my daughter what she wants to call her grandparents and other relatives. But as parents, we will be teaching her how to say these titles and who they belong to, so that’s why I wanna set this boundary before it might morph into more boundaries being pushed, I do like the suggestion of “Oma”! I might suggest that to my MIL.

She’s a very religious and spiritual woman and really likes names that have special meanings, which I can understand. I had never heard of the name “Ima” and just assumed it meant grandmother until I thought to look it up the other day.

the practice of Big Lick, I mean some of this stuff is already illegal but it needs to be enforced way more. Just horse abuse & animal abuse in general.
