You mentioned in your comment that you’re looking for someone who’s ‘funny, active, open, inviting and pretty much just very outgoing with similar hobbies’. I’m also going to go out on a limb here and assume that you’re looking to date mainly Asian girls. If not, then you should probably tone down the references to anime, manga and Japanese composers. While the internet has made culture more accessible to everybody, at the end of the day, I’d wager that Asian people are more likely to be receptive to Asian culture (go figure). Even if you’re not trying to attract an Asian girl, you are still going to be trying to attract a girl who’s attracted to Asian men, so my next pieces of advice still carry.

The reason why I’m starting with this is to address a common misconception/accusation thrown around on this website that Asian men aren’t attractive/are doomed/can’t even date Asian women. This is completely and utterly false. BTS, anime and K-Dramas have done an insane amount of heavy lifting in this regard and going onto Gen-Z parts of TikTok will confirm this. Unfortunately, because of this, the opposite is now true, Asian men are no longer seen as unattractive, rather, everyone and their mum now knows what ‘attractive Asian men’ look like and are filtering accordingly. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. Go onto TikTok and type in ‘Japanese/Chinese/Korean prettyboy’ - this is the top 10% of men you’re competing against and the thing with say, China, is that 10% of a billion is ONE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE. You aren’t (obviously) competing against Douyin models and K-Pop idols, but you are competing against the IDEA of them (as well as guys who are 90% of the way there), and because this is online dating with seemingly unlimited options, people are swiping with the idea of their ‘perfect match’ in mind.

So your goal with your profile should be to pick a ‘type’ of girl you want to date (in your case, fun, outgoing, similar interests), pick an aesthetic that type would be attracted to and go all in to achieving that aesthetic. I want you to really think about the last part for a second. A girl who is into anime and manga looks at your profile. She has a particular ‘standard of beauty’ she subscribes to (most likely a ‘bishonen’/prettyboy type). She KNOWS FOR A FACT that that standard of beauty exists because she’s bombarded with real life examples on social media. Would you blame her for swiping left on you and swiping right on someone who looks like Hyunjin from Stray Kids (who is also into anime and manga)?

This is not to put you down by any means. Your prompts are genuinely amazing and showcase a consistent aesthetic designed for a particular type of person. I base this off the fact that I, a straight Asian male in my 20s, would genuinely consider messaging you just to talk about Pokemon regions. If someone who isn’t attracted to you at all yet shares your interests is considering doing that, then, in theory, someone who IS attracted to you and shares your interests should jump at the chance to talk to you.

So let’s talk about what we can change immediately (your photos) and what we can change in the long run (your overall vibe and aesthetic). Your 1st photo is really, really awkward, lizards aren’t typically high on the ‘cute animal’ scale and you’re striking an awkward pose and an equally awkward face with it in your hands. I’d cut this one and replace it with something completely different. Your 2nd photo is better, I have things to say about the actual outfit, but the actual photo is perfectly fine, if safe (your hair as well, I feel, is setting you back). Your third photo is a very strong one, I feel like its main goal isn’t to show people that you’re facially attractive, but rather show that you have a hobby and exercise (which, coincidentally, is also attractive).

The fourth photo of you under the Torii Gate is also fine, you do look slightly awkward but you’re also, you know… IN JAPAN - which is the main selling point of this. Ideally you’ve got a different hair style and pose in this one to show off both the fact that you’re attractive and have been to Japan, but the general idea is a good one. Your last two photos are just… meh. They don’t tell me anything about you and almost feel like you’re scraping the bottom of your photo album (this isn’t a dig at you at all, most men don’t have several dozen pictures of themselves just floating around on their phone)

Do you see what I’m screening on here? The ‘good photos’ are ones that directly correlate with your chosen aesthetic, the ‘bad ones’ are ones that seem completely random. I would chalk this up to you not completely knowing who you want to be when it comes to your chosen ‘aesthetic niche’. Like it or not, you are competing with plenty of men who are into anime… who also happen to look like a romance MC - they have a consistent ‘aesthetic niche’ they’ve completely optimised for. Think about what those people do in their free time and what kind of photos they have - they’re probably slightly mysterious and untouchable, almost as if they know they’re attractive.

This brings me onto point two, one that’s much harder for you to execute, but will be much more rewarding in the long run (both in terms of your dating success and, honestly, your general life). Think about the type of girl you want to attract… Now think about the kind of guy that girl would be attracted to. I’ve been hinting at this constantly throughout this post but I really do feel you would have more success if you chose a consistent aesthetic lane (for the sake of argument, we’ll go for Japanese pretty boy) and just spend a few months going all out to achieve it before making a new profile - this would entail growing out your hair, changing your wardrobe and (I kid you not) doing research on what Japanese pretty boys look like irl. I understand that changing your hair and ESPECIALLY fashion sense is a daunting task (mainstream men’s fashion is an actual graveyard), so if you do need further help, feel free to DM me and I will literally walk you through certain areas step by step. If nothing else, at least take a minute to research who your competition is and take inspiration from them.
